New Mixed games List Request

10422 Views 35 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Hagar
I have been thinking for a while and after talking to Quads on Saturday, I want to put together a regular list of people who would be interested in a regular mixed game format similar to the "Big Game" but at our stakes. I am thinking about playing monthly in this format to promote better understanding of all games plus I miss my roots of playing 7CS and RAZZ long before I played NLH.

I am proposing a 6-8 handed table with 7CS, Razz, Omaha Hi/Lo, NLH.

Based on how the game goes, might decide that Omaha Hi works better and might take out Razz because it is a dying game although I love it and I think it helps Omaha H/L skills.

Any feedback is welcome but I most want a reply as to whether you want to be on the list as a definitel player for this type of game.

I'd be interested if we keep the limits down a little ($50 buy-in max). I'd suggest that if we're going to do the 7 stud formats, that you limit the attendance to 7 - 8 gets funky with having to do reshuffles if everyone hangs around. It would be a fun change of pace (if we had a pace to change from...).

What are you thinking, 30 minutes per game? One game per orbit?

I like Razz, been a while since I played it, but I remember how brutal it is to watch a great starter get punked on later streets. Could also add 7 stud 8OB hi/low to the mix if you wanted. That's a pot builder if I ever saw one.

I noticed that the only game you have specified as NL is Holdem. Is that on purpose or just an oversight?

How are you figuring the stud game format? Small ante per player, forced low card bring-in?
I fully support it and at any level.
My preference would be a rotation from O8B, NLH, and 7CS.
I have been thinking about hosting this since we spoke of it as well.
HOSE is good. I prefer no Razz. 8 handed would be max. 9 handed is doable but one player would have to sit out per hand on a rotation basis (on the studs games).

I propose the following:

Buy in :$100 (probably need to bring a $200-
$300 BR), 30-min per game.

H: HE No Limit
Blinds $0.50/$1 (our normal game)

O: O8OB Limit
Blinds $1/$2. (preflop and flop bets $2, turn and river bets $4), 3 raises (no limit on raise if heads up)

S: 7CS Limit
Antes:$0.25
3rd Street Low card force bet: $1, optional complete bet to $2. (if the same low cards the suits will be clubs (low), diamonds, hearts, spades (high)
4th Street $2 or optional $4 if a pair is showing.
5th, 6th, and 7th Street $4. 3 raises max per round (no limit on raises if heads up)

E: 7CS8OB Limit
Antes:$0.25
3rd Street Low card force bet: $1, optional complete bet to $2.
4th Street $2 (no optional $4 if a pair is showing.)
5th, 6th, and 7th Street $4. 3 raises max per round (no limit on raises if heads up)

I will play at a higher limit also (e.g., with all limits double in the above 4 games.)

We could also issue "Overs" buttons for people who want to play at the higher limit on the limit game (i.e., if only people with the overs are left in the hand the limits double).

I'd probably prefer a spread limit on the stud games (1-5 on 1-4th streets, 1-10 on 5-7th streets), but I could live with Ace's proposal. I'd vote to include Razz. (HORSE)
I guess I will brush up on razz then.

Spread limit is okay, although most people would tend to bet the maximum.

The limit version of the game I described was based on the $2/$4 structure at pokerstars below. I wouldn't mind playing the $3/$6 or $4/$8 or even $5/$10.

You're probably right on that account. I'm just recalling the game I was playing back in the day. I'm pretty sure that's how they spread it in the casinos when I was playing 20 years ago. It may have been 1-3 on third street - .50 forced bet for low card, $1 bring in. Something like that....

Thinking along the lines of betting the max, a 5/10 would be pretty steep for the buy-in. Maybe your proposed structure would be better, at least for a starting point.
As I understand HORSE, E is not 7CS8OB, it's O8B, but what ever.
Either way would work, but we already have Omaha 8OB so we could make it Omaha High only if that suits the purpose better. It will be a funky (not bad, just different) night no matter what we choose.
I'm fully in favor of a mixed game. In fact, I have talked about it with Quads recently.
I like the horse format, with one orbit per game.
I prefer Pot-limit for the Omaha games (or all of them for that matter).
I have been thinking of hosting one of these games myself. Keep the suggestions flowing.
I'd like to get a bit more familiar with the format before we start messing with pot limit. Just my opinion.
Quads,

I'm VERY INTERESTED in playing a game like you mentioned.
We could go: $100 buyin (or $50 if we need more people)

1. Omaha H/L 8
2. 7-card Stud
3. NLHE

Possibly some PLHE?? I know how much you love PL.
I'd keep it at 3 games in one night. Maybe rotate each hour or orbit.

I am considering hosting as follows:
Mixed Game on Wednesday November 2. 6:30 pm start time
Will aim for 7-8 players. $40 buy in
Games will rotate among these (each orbit) :
1. Pot Limit Holdem $.50/1.00 blinds
2. Omaha High (pot-limit) $.50/1.00 blinds
3. 7 Card Stud (limit) $0.25 antes $1/2 force/complete $2/4 limit thereafter.
4. Omaha Hi/Lo Split (limit) $1/2 blinds $2/4 limit

In the future I intend to incorporate Razz and/or 2to7 Triple Draw into the mix, but not at this 1st game.

I am open to a different night if that Wed does not work well for most people.

Who's interested? If i get enough interested folks, i'll repost in the game announcements section.

3-8. ?

I would definently be interedsted in playing these type of games.

My preferences would be:
1. Omaha 8B H/L Limit 1/2
2. NL Hold Em .50/1
3. 7 Card Stud

Heat, can't make it to the Wednesday night game since I am in school and working Sunday thru Thursday night every week. The only days that I am available to play would be on Fridays And Saturdays.

I'd be in with this suggestion:
Rotate the orbit as you stated.
NL Omaha / High ($1/2 Blinds)
NL Hold'em ($1/2 blinds)
7CS ($1/$2/$4 - Low card is the forced bet)
PL Omaha 8B ($1/2 Blinds)

My absolute preference would be $2/5 blinds, but for a starter mixed game, I think $1/2 will generate enough action and no one will get broke in the first hour.

Although Wed. the 2ns is not good for me. (Need to be in Vegas for a meeting that afternoon (business) and then again that night (at the Wynn) )

Lastly, if you're planning on hosting it, get it over in the Game Announcements and let 'er rip!
I should be able to play on 11/2. However, my karate practice is over at 7 over there on EDH Bl. and Olson. So I should be there by 7:15 (I might leave the practice earlier.)

I might have to go out of town for 2 days on business between 11/1 to 11/14 so I can't commit totally.

Count me in as a late arrival for now.
I'll be out of town next week. Weeknights are not the best for me anyway.
The buy in for the $2/$4 needs to be higher. I would suggest $50 to preferrably $100.
Even $100 is pushiung it for that spread.
Not sure what you mean but I don't think $40 is enough to go through that gyration of game. Even our normal $0.50/$1 needs $50 to start.
