I am sick of my cheap-ass, ghetto dice chips. I found a set of Chipco Egyptians for sale and I want some input from PMC.

This set looks to be in mint condition. The denom breakdown is:

• 160x$25
• 300x$100
• 80x$500
• 60x$1000
• 50x $5000

Total of 650 chips

Seller is asking $400. Now, I have been shopping around for a while, and I really prefer a compression molded chip, like ASM or Paulson. I have heard good things about Chipco. Also, my bankroll is a bit light, so I was hoping to ask the seller if he would be willing to make a trade.

Anyway, if someone has experience with Chipco chips, let me know. Thanks.

I am not a fan of ceramics. But I don't mind Chipcos. They are the Cadirrac of the ceramic chip world.

They used to go for $1 per new. So $400 for 650 chips is a good price, especially if they are in new condition. And breakdown looks good on a cursory review for a tournament structure.

Mike32 regularly buys chips he doesn't need... He can give you some info on Chipcos, I'm sure.

Chipco is certainly in the leading pack of ceramics. They are of casino quality, and the casino choice when they use ceramics. There are a couple others out there that are popular, but for second hand, that's a fair buy. Gene (site sponsor, ABC Gifts and Awards) also makes an outstanding ceramic chip at a competitive price. For years, it was all about Chipco and nobody could compete with them because their print process is very clear, detail oriented, etc. Customs through Chipco would be $1.25 per chip. Now, like you've found, the market is softer for them.
I know a couple people with the Egyptians and they are nice. Very nice artwork.

Not to pump our sponsor, but truth be told; If I weren't going with customs through Gene, I'd go to Chipco because the overall quality of clarity of the printing on the chip.

If you're using that chip set for a cash game, get at me. I may want to take a seat in your game.

On the other hand, I also prefer clay chips just for the feel, sound, history, etc. The first expensive set of chips I bought were Chipcos and after using them for a year or so, I traded them (plus cash) for a set of casino paulsons and I couldn't be happier.

Then again, top quality clay chips are very expensive, especially if you are trying to buy new or in like new condition. If you are on a budget, Chipcos would be a great compromise. I guess my recommendation is that you probably would be happy with the chipcos, but if you are worried you will want clays later down the road, then wait and buy what you want first.

I got a sample set of Egyptians a few years ago when they were still available new. They are beautiful chips and I'd love to have a whole set. Unfortunately, I didn't have the money at the time to get a whole set.

I'm happy with my ceramic Nevada Jacks chips, but the Egyptians are nicer.

As stated above, Chipcos are the shit in the ceramics world. That being said, if you like clays, I'd say to pass on these and save up for paulsons. I've got a bunch of Caribbean Poker Classics, and while they're really nice, my PNYs and PCRs are my go to sets.

There's been a huge influx of chips to hit the market lately that's really driven down prices. The Chip Room is having a St. Patty's day sale with used paulsons dirt cheap.

They are tourney chips and a little funky looking, but certanly nice enough. As far as chipco's themselves, I feel there are about as nice as anything else out there. People who use mine and are not "chip snobs" have good things to say. I personally like playing with them as much as any chip I have used.

I know you guys hate on chiptalk but there are lots of opportunities for cheap chips over there. The chiproom warehouse is like 15 minutes from my house, I have got to see it sometime. It is such a buyer's market now, nothing is worth anything (except old rare chips I suppose).

I will ask him if he would let a group of us go. We could throw down some poker at my place (or better yet Slev's cuz he has a keg) afterward. A few years ago I was going to stop by but never did.

But make sure you have 100W bulbs (MINIMUM) in your lighting fixtures, especially if it's the only light in the room...unless your 29" tube television gives off some serious light. Although, I hear those coal mining headlight lamps are pretty cheap these days.
