We (BYOC) seem to have a large enough group now that we could conceivably schedule 2 separate games a weekend with one higher game and one lower limit game. The BYOCers who prefer the bigger limit and the small limit seem to be mutually exclusive. However, occasionally we could put together a mega tourney or something like Hagar is doing this Saturday.

I don't know that the group was "contained" to begin with~!
In theory, and what was initially the goal of BYOC was to assist and facilitate people hosting poker games. This spawned the discussion board which allowed people to post their games, discussions, etc. etc.

There is nothing that says this is a closed group. If someone wants to host a game, go for it. If there are other games that night, so be it. Some will host at certain stakes, and others at their preferred stakes / format. There are also those that play that more than the others in the group. Some play once a month, once a week, and others multiple times a week.

Nobody runs BYOC, (other than my fronting the bill for the server / connection to maintain the web site), we are simply a bunch of guys and gals that have poker tables and enjoy either taking money from someone or giving it to someone else.

What has turned out is now those that prefer one buy in / format, versus a different buy in / format. I play in a couple of other games / groups that have the same dynamics of BYOC, which is pretty much "to each is own", different people, different hosts, different games.

If something were planned out far enough in advance, I would love to see a 60 or 70 person tourney / gaming event that brought everyone in the same room.

I used the subject heading of Group Split? as an attention getter. I am not implying we are a contained group.

I hope we'll have a regular $100 buy in game going within BYOC. I don't mind keep bringing some chocolate.

That's my aim towards more of the games I host.
I think there will still / contineu to be the lower stakes buy in games as well.

I have been playing here for about a year and am still only comfy in the lower limit games. I know that the discussion here in the past has been "what's the difference between buying in 3-4 times with a $25 buy-in" as opposed to buying into a $100 game" IMHO it's a mindset that an only be broken by doing it. I haven't taken the step towards a higher buy-in game for comfort reasons only. I think that, Thanks to everyone that I have played with/against in the last year, I have become a better player and could probably hold my own in a higher staked game. I mean when you break it down, it's the same cards, the same chips...their just worth a little more.

Someone, in one of the posts, said once that you have to not think of the chips as money. I think that may be true to some extent. The more I play, the more I want to play in a higer staked game. My recent experience with the "Slime" leads me even closer to a higer staked game for the single reason that I am more apt to play with people that know WTF they are doing than in a bar with a bunch of people that hadn't even showered that day! LOL!!

Just some thoughts.......

And I think that's a great thing about the group is that we have a ton of different people, at different levels, in different games, etc. etc. etc.
From that, we all get the exposure of one another and can (as you have pointed out) can build on that as part of your poker game as a whole.

I think this will be starting to happen Ace. I will be hosting a $100 buy-in game in the next couple weeks and I plan to do it at least once if not twice a month. I am sure there will be a lower limit offered on the weekends that I host as well as anyone else who decides to offer higher limit.

BK, I think between you and your bro you can certainly do it 1-2 times a month. I don't mind good players since I am saving a ton on rakes and tokes if I were in a casino instead of a home game. You gotta be pretty good to overcome $12 an hour in those expenses.

There is also the potential to win substantially more in a casino setting where you do pay a rake and offer up tokes to dealers.

A card room or casino table has far more cash on it (comparatively speaking) to one of the common $25 dollar games that are hosted within BYOC.

From most of the cardroom summaries I have read from Quads and others, people are pulling out on average $300 to $500 in a good session. I think that potential will be true in our $100 buy-in games although it may be a tad harder to do it consistently.

Agreed, on the games where we are buying in and playing at the same stakes as card rooms.

Mmmm. I think most of the games now are $40. The $25 games are fairly rare now. I can think of 4 25$ games in the last 4 months, with the rest being $40 or higher.

$40 seems to be the norm. And a few $50's out there.

I think that Kahuna and I feel similiar about hosting games which are geared toward what one would take into a card room as a bank roll and getting a game going along that.
