I asked this question on Scott Keen's site and nobody came through.....

You got any photos or plans for cupholders that fold away under the table?

I have no idea what he is talking about.
My reply was the polite way of saying "Keep your shit off the table" as in "cash, chips or cards only on the table"

I don't know what kind of cup holder would fold out from under the table.

It would be easy enough to incorporate some type of fold out drink holder, but I'd advise against it.

How many do you put in? 8? 10? 12? They would end up defining where people have to sit and reduce the flexibility of seating. I know you prefer to keep your seating down to 10 per, but it's good to have some flexibilty.

If you just HAVE to have drink holders, you can get some of the plastic (or stainless), slip under the rail, drink holders that they use in casinos. I think the plastic ones are only like $3 each and they seem to work fine in casinos. But you will be inviting a higher chance for a mistake that wrecks your table.

I have some of the plastic ones that have the tab on then that slide under the rail. You can have them if you want.

But again, I echo what Hag's says. You come here to play poker or drink in a lazy boy? Oh.. poker? Great, then put your cash on the table, and I'll give you some chips and cards.

OK, it's Friday... here we go.

I don't mean to be raining on your parade, but yur asking me to define something that I've (either you, or the creator) never seen, and goes against my thought on a poker table being a poker table (versus a dinner / bar table).

Now I'm all about having a nice table, people want to put drink holders in their table, go for it. I think yur silly for doing so, but it's yur table, so knock yourself out!

When people say or I hear "cup holders" anywhere close to the word "poker" or "table" I'm like a deer in the headlights. I tune out.
I've never looked at them, considered them, researched them, etc. since;

Once upon a time, long long ago, in a land far far away, I thought it would be cool to have a table with drink holders. So I thought, every time I go to a card room or a casino, I'll grab one of those drink holders on their table. I came home from Vegas once with a big ass suite case full of the friggin' things. Then one day, I played on a friends table that had beer, pizza, chips, all kinds of shit spilled on it. It was nasty. I was afraid to play on his table, let alone what the cards and chips were like from being all in the 'funky' of the table.

Needless to say, the collection of cup holders I have has been collecting dust ever since.

So, no, I don't mean to be a tough crowd, but asking me something (again, that I have never seen, the creator of the idea can't delineate, nor can you) I have a tough time with. Trying to figure this one out. I'm stumped.

Now, if you said, "Hey Quads, You floss and fly with the best of 'em. Do you think you could engineer something for me where my cup holders will fold under the table with the flip of a switch??"

I'd say, "sure, I can build anything with the right tools and material. .....and yes, I do floss and fly like that, so get your towel, cause it's laid out like that"

But would I build it?
That's kinda like saying "Screw my wife... please!"

Here's my rational about the whole cupholder thing...

If the cupholders are mounted beneath the rail so that they slide out from underneath the table, that eliminates the possibility of a bottle being knocked out of the holder and spilling on the felt. If it gets knocked out of a cupholder that's under the table, then the worst that could happen is it falls 30 inches to the garage floor and the bottle breaks.

We seem to have a fair number of spills as a result of bottles sitting on the garage floor, so I don't mind a bottle falling from the holder once in a blue moon because it's gonna totally eliminate bottles being knocked over by chair legs.

With the cupholders beneath the table, the chance of spillage on the table comes from somebody being a slob while taking a chug or just being careless with the bottle. That could just as easily happen with no cupholders. People still have to pick up the bottle from the ground to get it to their mouths. I don't see that as any less dangerous than people grabbing it from a holder mounted under the table.

As for the cupholders determining seating...I decided "whatever." Maybe somebody doesn't get a cupholder if the table is full or maybe people have to sit a little left or right of where they otherwise would. I decided "so what" about that.

Does that make any sense???

I posted these awhile back in the official poker table build thread.......they are pull-out cup holders that sit flush with the skirting on the bottom of the table. I've also added pictures of similar slide out cups that others have did.

There is also this thread on the Keen Forum about cheap swing out cupholders.......sorry if I'm not supposed to post links.
