Pre-owned table customizations

I've inherited a coin-op Tornado (this beast) from a fellow not a long time ago and decided that it would fit my mancave well. It was well maintained, but does have some cosmetic issues. So I would like to re-paint it completely, from players to the insides and add some led-lights inside the box if possible.
Right now I'm looking for cool ideas, tips, tricks and such. Beware, Pinterest! But also I'd be glad if you'd share your setups, ideas and plans with me.

For instance, which paint could you recommend for this task? I've already found an option where you can just replace playfield with a printed one, but meh. I'd better paint it myself.
