Amazon Fire TV "XBMC"

Lets put it here guys. Amazon Fire TV will run XBMC. One of the best Streamer I have played with. More testing and opinions to follow.

Amazon Fire TV will not allow running XBMC as is. Good thing Amazon has not locked out any user from "Side Loading" and "Rooting" the device. To that end someone has made a great little app that will do the coding and install APK packs with one click. Runs in Windows or Mac. Follow the link. Mod's remove if not ok. I can message the link for those that ask. Post your finding here.

Just as a follow up, all you need to do is grab the Android xbmc apk from xbmc.org and install. No need to root. When I get home from the casino, I can add my notes.

Show box works as well, no need to stream from your phone. But you will need a wireless mouse or Windows media remote

With the fire tv, you can install it directly. Avoids the step you take now, streaming to your Pi.

I know I'm probably the only one still "worried" about this, but I'll ask...

Any way to *EASILY* send all 'Net traffic through this thing through a VPN? Any way to load up an OpenVPN clinet/setup, to "mask" all traffic, etc.?

(My wallet is hurting from all of this, too!)

All I can say is check here or google the web for more info. I just started with the Fire TV in hopes of finding the best that can be had. The Fire has a lot of promise it's just about testing and working what we know.

Pete - how do you get around the apps? are you using the amazon provided remote or a mouse/keyboard?

reason i'm asking, in Showbox, the app acts like it's on a swipe-able phone, meaning i can't go up/down/left/right with amazon's remote. however my logitech allows me to hold down the left mouse button and scroll around.
