Gotcha.

I graduated from Southern Illinois University. We would make party punch out of Everclear and lemonade mix...

I'm not sure how you will get two kegs into a standup freezer, unless they are the torpedo 1/4 barrels. That said, you would also need a really big chest freezer to fit to 1/2 barrel kegs in it. So assuming you could find a chest freezer big enough, it isn't that hard to get a 1/2 barrel into a chest freezer. It is basically a two man job, but you would be surprised how much you can lift when motivated by having your own draft beer. Now that I am homebrewing into cornies, it's much easier to lift, but I used to put the full 1/2 barrels in all the time by myself. When I originally built my kegerator, I used a 7 cu. ft. freezer from home depot with a column conversion kit from micromatic. I have since then built my bar around this same chest freezer and attached part of the bar top to the top of the freezer door. As a native south Louisiana boy (Geaux Saints!!!! Who Dat Superbowl champs!!!!!), I had to use some good old fashion Cajun Engineering. Here is the link to my post with pics.

If you use a chest freezer make sure you get an external thermostat. I have the analog Johnson Control like this one. http://www.northernbrewer.com/brewin...hermostat.html.

Trust me. After you waste a keg of good beer by freezing it solid, it's worth the $60.

Erie,

I've seen your setup here and on some other sites. It's effin' sweet! I love the bartop. That's some gorgeous wood you'e got there. Very nicely done.

From what I've seen done by Erie and others, a "keezer" looks pretty viable to do an attractive job with.

That said, I've been scouring the local craigslist for mancave stuff and I've come across a single-tap kegerator for $75. Looks a bit rough and needs a CO2 bottle, but I hope to go check it out this weekend...

With the sidebar about "keezers," no one ever did say how well the "keg box" system of the barplan.com design worked. Has anyone ever built one of these or at least seen one in operation?

You could try this: EHBP-03 Wet Bar with Keg Box | Easy Home Bar Plans
or an L-shaped variation: EHBP-04 L-Shaped Wet Bar | Easy Home Bar Plans
or a 45 degree corner variation: EHBP-09 45 Degree Angled Corner Wet Bar | Easy Home Bar Plans
all three can be built with an internal DIY keg box using off the shelf parts

I built one in 2004 and it works good to this day. Not like I use it all that much these days, but when the need arises, mostly on holidays, I crank it up a day in advance to get it down to temp. Always use cold beer kegs, not room temp. If you're buying room temp beer, you're buying from the wrong place anyway. lol
