Default Secret bookcase door project

Hi all.. Not posted in a while.. Been too busy.. Done some structural stuff to the stairs to first floor.. Some sound proofing (R13 insulation and 5/8" fire code sheetrock double layered)

The wall where the bookcases are is a load bearing wall.. So I braced it all.. Removed the original 2x4 timber studs ?!?! And put in a steel I beam and steel posts..

Then built the bookcases around the opening.. With steel posts in between each bookcase

The door bookcase will get RFID lock and magnets to secure it.. A gas strut to open it.. And trim to match the first 2 bookcases.. The MDF is all hung on a steel frame..

Its still a work in progress.. But hope to have it all finished by the end of this month

As we are pinball collectors.. And have not started the "1930's" movie theatre build yet.. I wanted to make getting pinballs/furniture etc into the basement easier.. So bookcase number 3 can be removed without tools.. Once its in position its solid..

Its on casters and can be wheeled well out of the way

That is so damn cool. The movable bookcase is a great idea too.

Ive been planning it for a while.. Trying to work out shut lines etc.. I don't want to step over anything at floor level.. And when its all shut.. The bookcase to look and feel solid.. With no obvious signs of what/where it opens

A bit more progress

Gas strut now fitted..

I wanted it so that once the RFID fob releases the magnetic locks.. The door opens without touching the bookcase door

The door will have to be pulled shut manually though

Not bad considering the door must weigh 200 lbs

For me its easier to share videos than photos.. As I don't have a photobucket account etc

I should get the electromagnetic locks mounted this week

The RFID system is all wired now and key fobs programmed

Then its finish the paint/ trim/stain on the bookcases

Obviously any who are the bar/arcade/cinema will just press the EXIT button if the door is shut... (Fire regs)
