I'd love 150-.25, 150-.50, 300-$1, 200-$5, 75-$25, 25-$100. That would easily cover me for the 3 games i play. Though the .50 and $1 are pretty close in color.

No need for a quarter and fiddycent. Its like using a $1 and $2 chip.

I definitely don't want $20 chips. Both mike & wedge's suggestions are good but i may go with some more 25 & 100s in case I want to run a small 10-person tourney with them. I will go with 25 cent chips as well, I want to accommodate the games we play now and have enough for when I have the 1/2 games at home (will probably buy a few 100s).

Let's try to get a warehouse visit set up next week, make a chip purchase, the a game for all in attendance

Wedge's 2nd suggestion is good. At that price I also think buying some extras for a 8 man or so tourney is a great idea. You can use the 5's in the tourney because by the time the cash game rolls around they will be colored up. By the time you need 25 dollar chips in the cash game they will also be colored up. I feel you can have a pretty good tourney with just 5, 25 and 100 chips. But a few 500 chips woud not hurt.

Just be aware that if you like these chips they are but a stepping stone to more sets. They were the first "nice" chips Boother had way back when and also my gateway drug when I used them. Truth be told they are all you will ever need and they are extremely nice, feel like most any compression "clay" chip IMO.

I wouldn't use the same chipset for a tournament and a cash game the same night.

Too easy to "lose" a tournament chip only to have it cashed in later as a cash chip.

Just run one a night, borrow a chipset for the other game, or buy two sets.

Actually, I saw a guy do this once and his way around it was to reverse the denoms: since the low denoms were coloured up early in the tourney, they were available for the cash as higher denoms.

But, yeah, it's as good an idea as setting the value to all the chips in a cash game (regardless of colour) at twenny-five cents. That's a pain.

$20s chips are not as versatile although you can easily use them in a tourney so it is not a major drawback. However, most of the cash game people don't just rebuy $20 at a time. Also, there aren't too many sets with $20 in it, especially if you are looking into buying higher end stuff.

I like a $20 chip because a $40 rebuy (typical in a 25c/50c game) is just two chips, and when stacking, a standard stack is an even hundo, as opposed to the odd total of $125.

The differences are subtle. If given the option, I'd take a $20 chip over a $25 every time. But the differences are so minimal that $25 chips are still a viable option.

Ballers stack their $25 chips in stacks of 20's yo. I'd rather have a stack = $500 than $400.
