Default Updated cabinets-

I asked spousal unit what she wanted for Christmas. She said she wanted me to help her refinish our kitchen cabinets- 10 days of prime deer hunting time spent slaving in the kitchen....

40 doors and drawers, 4 coats each plus 4 coats on the boxes.

Now she wants new countertops and an apron sink. FMR!

Same here, and refinishing/painting cabinets is no light task!

Well done, dude! Also, tell your wife you want her to buy more of those pants.

the project started when she and my daughter removed the doors, drawers, hinges and pulls. then we spent an evening cleaning and deglossing. then, an afternoon spent painting the base coat. i did the bases while she did the the doors and drawers. wheni got done with the bases, i started in on some doors. the next night was more of the same until all 40 doors and drawers, and the bases had 2 coats of base paint. she then did the glaze technique by herself which took all day long and most of a night. then it took a day to clear coat all of it. once that had dried for 24 hours, we put the hinges back on and hung the doors and put the drawers back in. last night, i finished up by putting the pull knobs back on.

while we were painting the doors with the base coat, "the outsiders" was on the tube in the other room. I'm afraid every time i see a clip from the movie, it will stir memories of the hours spent painting those damn cabinets.

i was resistant at first and just knew we were going to screw up perfectly good cabinets, but i must say, it did turnout a lot better than i thought it would.

The saga continues...

After repainting the cabinets, the spousal unit decided she wanted new sink and countertops. Iíve been putting her off as long as I could...but she finally decided now or never...so here we go.

We have an 11 foot long L shape counter on the left and straight 6 foot section on the right. The thought of installing a farmhouse sink and replacing perfectly good countertops is a bit overwhelming.

I decided to try the shorter, stove side first. The existing counter had electric Jen air down draft grill/griddle on the left and gas range on the left. The Jen air took up a lot of space better suited for clear counter space for food prep and slow cookers and such.

Finally but the bullet and knocked out the shorter counter replacement last weekend

Before

After

Iíve got a new black vent hood to put in and then Iíll start in the sink side...

Looks great. What material did you use for the counter? Looks like hard wood or tongue and groove pergo flooring but that doesn't seem like it would be practical for a counter top. I particularly like the brick wall behind and to the sides. Love me some old brick construction, there too much fake facade backsplash out there.

She originally wanted butcher block but then decided she didn’t want to keep up with maintenance of real wood. It is ceramic tile made to look like wood flooring. Easier to work with than I expected. We will see how it holds up pots and pans...
