One of the best things I've ever done for home efficiency was install garage shelving on the side walls. I just ripped an 8x4 foot plywood board into 1 food wide strips and used basic L-brackets to mount them. You get an enormous amount of storage for very little money and it's all very easy to see and access. You may not need it right away just moving in but keep it in mind for a future project.
