Huddersfield has a spectacular aura about
Default UK Build

Hi guys,

I've been browsing this site on and off for a while now and before this I was an occasional poster on the old site poker table building site (2005/06). Anyway, a very long story story cut short....started a table...marriage....child....child....never completed the build. Now, I've never got rid of the itch to finish the table, but sadly it's just too big for where I want now want it (moved house 4 times). So my plan is to build a 4' round with 1" raised 6" rail covered in black vinyl with standard stainless steel cup holders with platinum SSC.

I've sourced the wood pedestal and already got that, but so far nothing else. I recall getting the SSC from a company in Canada back in 2006 but for the life of me I can't find it now. I'll most likely use YAT.

I think I'm happy with how the build is going to go, just not sure if I'll use a diffuser with LED lights behind yet as I'm struggling to find someone who can cut the diffuser thin enough.

Anyway, my first question is how do you woodworking aficionados cut the cup holder rings and holes so small? Home made router jig (guides available?), shop bought router jig or something I haven't thought about?

I anticipate that there'll be a few more questions before I start but I'll start to acquire my supplies as the answers (hopefully) start to pour in.

I haven't done a table with cup holders but I think the usual method or cutting the holes for them is with a hole saw attachment on a power drill. Something like this should work (just pick one that has the correct diameter).

I use my CNC machine to cut them, so I kind of cheat.

Before I had my CNC though, I used a router with a circle jig. Cut the inner circle, then the outer.

If you need suited diffusers, I make those too.

For the rings, I can't visualise how a jig would work to generate such a small hole/s. Can these be bought or self made? Any photos/ideas of such jigs?

I've sourced a 68mm hole saw for the holes in the rail but the rings (for on top of the rail) are getting me scratching my head at the moment!

I've already changed my mind on colour combinations. Originally I was going for Platinum SSC/Granite Symphony vinyl but I've gone classy with a change to Chocolate SSC/Allegro Taupe after seeing a sweet looking table (made by Irish) in one of the sticky threads. SSC and rail vinyl ordered through YAT so the ball is rolling! Not being familiar with your postal system, does anyone know how long it will take to be delivered if despatched (to MD) today by FedEx Ground?

Ok, the 5m reel of 120/m led strip lights with power supply and remote dimmer arrived in the post this morning. Really really impressed with it.

The SSC and rail vinyl should be delivered to my contact in California, MD on Thursday so I'll hopefully receive those within a week.

Now, I've got stainless steel drop in cup holders that I originally planned on using but since I've changed my SSC colour to Chocolate and vinyl to Alabaster, my gut feeling is that brass would look better. What do you guys think? If brass, where is the preferred/best/cheapest place to buy out where you are?

I’d steer away from brass cup holders. When they’re new they look great but after they tarnish they look like crap. IMHO 😃👍🏽
