So my lovely wife gave me a really nice dartboard for christmas. Unfortunatly since I dont have any stud walls in the basement/mancave I had to build a backboard for it....*snaps fingers* oh darn I had to play with wood and power tools :D

Father in Law and I building the basic frame....4x4 square of 2x2's.

Covering the face of 1/2" mdf with 12"x12" squares of 1/2" cork.

Everything on and mounted to the board.

Since I had no walls...it's hung from the floor joists flat agaiinst the wall

Now to try it out :D....

Quickly whipped my FIL and Wife's butt in some Cricket...not bad for not having really thrown in 2 years..

Once I dig the nail gun out I'll probably finish around the cork with some nice half round and then paint the score board side. I'm also going to mount a small cabinet of some shelves under the score board to put darts and chalk in.

well...nice work(although half lap joints on the framing would have been a nice touch)...but....and this is a big but......MOVE IT AWAY from the electricity...if a one in a million shot hits... you might have a problem!

also...shouldn't this go in the indoor/outdoor subforum...I am just sayin......

btw...really....nice work...makes me want to take up darts again.

I can just see it in pic. 6. The dart bounces of the metal wire on the board and sticks in the cat.
That would be a good shot, I hate Fuking cats.
Nice set up there. If you do get quite a few deflections of the board, put a scrap peice of carpet under it. It will save your darts from hitting the concrete braking tips or dulling them.

Yeah I'm going to pick up a hall runner or something to put down. I havn't had any pop outs yet, but the wife has had 1 or 2. For now we've got some extra pillows laying on the ground around it till I can get a carpet piece.

......MOVE IT AWAY from the electricity...if a one in a million shot hits... you might have a problem!

I ran an extension cord from a wall outlet near our board...the outlet itself was protected from mis-throws, but on the same wall as the board...and used the cord to plug in a portable spot-light that we'd hang from the ceiling, a few feet out from the board. The lighting was GREAT...the wiring was NOT.

Not long after this choice install, I tossed a dart and it was high. Grazed off the top of the board and went right through BOTH of the lines on the extension cord. Sparks flew. Light went out. Oh, and a LARGE chunk of the side/tip of my dark was "removed". I had to grind the heck out of it, just to get it to hold a sharp point again. It was probably a gram or so lighter than the other two!!! (Not really, but, well...)

Be careful! Cover up the electrical with some sort of shield, even if it is just temporary, while you are playing!!!

The cheap piece of carpet on the floor is a good one for falling darts, too! Throw it down before a game, right after you put up your Blake(TM) Electra-Shield!!!

You should try extreme darts. Open up that breaker box and hang the board from it. I bet you will make damn sure you don't miss the board.

Man....nice work. It brought up some old memories of "beer darts" in college. Consisted of shaking up a beer can and putting it on the fireplace ledge in front of the dart board. Beer darts required the thrower be at least 25 feet away from the beer....ahhhhhh fun times. Now I need to make a cabinet for the dart board that is just sitting there in my basement.
