just curious, how long do they last? When they burn out how do you replace them?

I've had a neon for well over 15 years.
When they burn out, they are typically broken, unless it's the transformer that's gone bad, which can be replaced. The neon tube is sealed with gas inside, so if that part "goes bad" the glass has broken, in which can be repaired, however can get expensive.
In my experience they last about as long as it takes to get pictures posted of new poker chips....:)

I have a neon Budweiser sign that is 50+ years old. Still works perfectly.
