My brother and I bought our condo back in 2001, got a sweet deal, has a deck and came with a full finished basement with a half bath. Jump to 2006 when I move back in after separating from the wife - I now have a dog and don't want him getting into places he shouldn't so we close the bathroom door in the basement. Now we have a bunch of crap down there so we don't journey downstairs too often. The door had remained closed for many summer months and when I finally went down there this last fall, I found we had a nice little mold problem going on. Most of it was on the trim boards around the toliet because that's where the standing water was. To be honest, we were thinking of redoing the bathroom anyway as you can see from this first picture:

This is the picture before we moved in. Seriously, who thinks this looks good?

I don't have a picture of the floor, but it was a crap white vinyl tile. The other picture I don't have is the one of the mold. But I started getting pictures after all the demo work was done.

Everything is ripped out. The mold got into the drywall and got even higher up into the drywall where the cabinet once was.

Drylock on the floor to seal it.

New tile, peel and stick. I got some extra glue in case, but ended up not needing it.

Extra drywall that was hanging out in the garage makes great filler.

I didn't get any pics of the mudding, but I just bought a tub of the pre-mixed stuff and it went fairly easy.

Primed with a dark primer so my bold paint will look nice.

The official NCAA Ohio State Scarlet and the nice new light fixture.

Old toilet and new vanity installed with new baseboards.

And new hardware installed.

The main space is fairly bright right now, but I wouldn't mind making it a bit more of a pub feeling. The color combo of the red, gray, and white looks great in person and helps get it closer to the rec-room space I want.

Nice work! Two things:
1. Lose the shell toilet seat and get a "normal" one they are less than $15
2. Maize and blue would have looked better. j/k I live in c-bus and have no ties to OSU so you "crazies" are fun to tease

Yea, the shell seat is the next to go.

I have to be a bit crazy. I graduated and currently work at OSU so it's pretty much a given.

NICE WORK!

Looks good. I'm glad to see another bucknut on here.

I think I'm the only NE Ohio one here. If I ever need to travel to C-bus, I will let you guys know so we can arrange for a drink or two.

nice...one suggestion...when you redo it again due to mold...use the greenboard stuff. It is moisture resistant.

Nice. But one problem...

That blue table clashes something fierce. 8)

One of my buddies is a huge Ohio State fan and has Ohio State everything.

Since you've made the commitment with the official color: why not a large-huge Ohio State logo for whichever wall would best support it?

Also, wish you would have fielded the idea/intentions of this job on the board here before completing it. As JP mentioned, you'd have benefitted from using a moisture & mold resistant greenboard drywall (DensArmor Plus (http://www.gp.com/build/product.aspx?pid=4659)for instance) for this historically problematic moisture-prone room.

Since it's already done though, how about getting ahold of an energy-efficient dehumidifier for your lower level? You'd be amazed at how much moisture can be sucked out of the air.

Yea, the walls as they stand now are just regular drywall and I was considering the greenboard. But I believe the molding issue was due to the fact that the door was closed for the hottest part of last summer and this room has a vent to the outside with no central air vent. So basically the room got warm with standing water in the toilet and... mold.

Now that it is redone, I won't have the door shut anymore so it won't get anywhere near as humid in there... but I am planning on getting a dehumidifier this year as I plan on using the basement as the main living space.

I don't know if I will do a huge OSU logo, but I do have a few small items here and there that can add to the Ohio State theme. As soon as I can get the money (and my woodworking skills improve), I want to do an Ohio State poker table. I think that will be next year though.

Can't wait to show my buddy your table when it's complete; he'll flip over it.

An Ohio State toilet room... the jokes write themselves...

Nice work otherwise.
