got this model: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10285440 to process some big ass pork loins I got at Fareway In Iowa. These bad boys are over 10# and about 30" or so long. Made about 3/4 of them in 1-1/2" pork chops and the rest in pork roasts for the smoker/oven. The chewy end of the loins I cut off and pound into tenderloins to fry up. No pix this time but will when I have leftover brisket/chop next time. Anyone else have a vacuum sealer? I now wonder why I waited so long.

We have one. Use it all the time. Buy cheese, meat, etc in large qtys from Sams/Costco and freeze in the vacuum bags. Much less freezer burn. We've been using it for years.

I have one and use it as above mentioned for buying lots of beef at samsclub and freezing, and have also used it for storing smoked food. Same amount of charcoal for 2 pork butts in the smoker will cook 4 pork butts, so might as well take advantage of it.
Makes it really easy to reheat frozen bbq too - drop bag in boiling water.
I'm thinking of buying a whole uncut ribeye side this year, cutting my own steaks, and vaccuum sealing them. Haven't done the math yet, so don't know if it is worth it.

We are looking at getting half a cow. No antibiotics, no hormones, grass feed, etc. We have a foodsaver but are going to need a small freezer as well. Should take care of my beef needs for a month or two.

I know a guy who did this, went in with a couple other guys on it. They bought a freezer.
They also have a freezer for venison they've shot.

Reminds me of that penis pump I had a few years ago.... I used to "pump up" at random times and then nail the wife. It blew her mind.:thumb: I never even told her I owned one, LOL!!!
Hopefully now she'll be all stetched out for the next guy...
Fat chance.

Did you get any of these for yours?
Accessories:

Canisters:

I think the jar sealers, canisters, and quick marinator would be quite useful.
Interesting video I found on youtube:

Has anyone used the ZiplocŪ Brand Vacuum Freezer System? If so how well does it work? How much do they cost?
Thanks

Bought the FoodSaver V2240 the other night. Pretty impressed with it so far. Only downside thus far is that I can't find a place in Canada that sells the canisters/accessories. I would like to be able to use the hose adapter. If anyone knows a place in Canada that is selling these, let me know.

If you are talking about the battery powered hand held pump system then we have one. Id give it an over all meh. Small stuff should be fine. I wouldnt trust it with large chucks of expensive meats.

It works well enough for dividing up bulk amounts of hamburger or chicken breasts. Since it's just me and the wife we'll divide chicken or steak up into 2 breast packages and burger into 1 pound packs. With this and finally buying a deep freeze I'm actually getting some benefit out of my Sam's Club membership for a change.
But yeah i wouldn't look into using this for ALOT of meat. It would take too much time. But I've got some meat in the freezer I vac sealed with this back in september..still looks as good as the day we bought it. I also used it to pack and seal bags of fresh jalapenoes, pablanos and habenaros a co-worker grew last summer. I just dumped them in the bags whole and sucked the air out. They look just as good as the day i packed them. I might start looking at a food saver so I can start doing more. Since just about everwhere is selling the bags for them now (sam's, walmart, etc) they wouldn't be bad to have. A few years ago though I would have neer bought one cause you could only get the bags through mail order from teh company.

Something else I think I will try is for storage of caulking, glues, and other similar type materials. I never use the full tube of caulk and then several months later when I go to use it again it is all dried up. I think vacuum sealing it in a bag would allow it to be stored much longer.

great idea...let us know how it works out.

Only thing I may be concerned with is the possible fumes from the caulking, glue, etc going into the pump on the machine and then using the machine afterwards to vacuum food.

since you are vacuuming the air out of the bag and not blowing it into the bag, that is probably a moot point.

Kind of what I thought as well.

we have two and using it from last 5 years....we use it when we buy a large quantity of meat...and we divided the meat and seal up the portions (so you don't lay out a whole big pack of meat to thaw) and put into the freezer....we use ours for sealing up potato chip bags and putting away fresh veggies from the garden, and sales from stores too!...its really good to keep Cheese from molding and keeps lunch meats longer too!!..
