What the hell am I looking for?

I think I've got my thoughts on the PJ ironed out. I don't know models or brands yet, but I think a good quality 720 is best for me right now. I can always upgrade to a 1080 when the prices are reasonable.

Now my thoughts turn to the screen. I want to get a nice screen in the $1000.00-$1500.00 range, something that will do justice to a 1080 when the time comes. I'm thinking in the 96"-100? range.

What am I looking for, what are important qualities?

Sorry, dude. Can't help you there. I wasn't sure what I wanted so I did the DIY painted screen route. Screen color (shades of white to gray) will depend on how much ambient light you will typically have in the room when you watch. The amount of gain you want in your screen will depend on how bright your projector is. (I might have those backwards.) Anyway, pick your projector first, but realize that the screen you buy now may not be the one that is optimal for your next pj. Spend some time at the Carada and Da-Lite websites. You can read up there. Dalite.com has some good articles. http://www.dalite.com/products/

They are a customer service business, so you could call them. They can probably answer your questions. Certainly much better than I can. ;)

A friend of mine just sanded and painted his wall and it looked fantastic. He used some kind of special paint after sanding multiple times. When I finish my basement, I think I'm going to go this route.
