My name is Mark, and I use iTunes. Now that we got that out of the way...

Is there a way to have iTunes search my music folder for new music, or do I have to add the specific music files to iTunes myself?

Anyone ever experience iTunes fading music in and out while listening to music? Like the music gets loud, then somewhat softer, then loud, and then soft, etc... Seems like I just noticed this after erasing and re-importing my library.

Thanks.

I have always had to add files into the library, it never has automatically found music. That's not to say that there isn't a way to do it, I just haven't been bothered enough by it to look for a solution. I only use iTunes to sync my iPod. If I am listening to music via my computer I normally use WMP, so I haven't encountered the fading you are experiencing.

The only fading i have noticed is the, from one song to the next fade out then fade in. I am not sure if it was always that way or if it was part of a recent update (within last year).

There's a setting for this under Edit>Preferences>Playback called "Crossfade Songs" for the fading between songs. There are also a few other settings that may be screwing around with you volume on the preference tab (sound check/enhancer)

I was messing around with my music last night and I discovered that it was my sound card's custom equilizer that was making songs fade in and out while playing (not cross fading).

Now if I can figure out how to have music automatically added to my iTunes library... :?

Just came across this today. There are two ways to add music to your iTunes. IMPORT or ADD.

When you import a song from a CD, a copy of the song is placed in your iTunes Music folder (in My Music/iTunes), so that all your imported music files are stored in a central location.

When you add an item to your iTunes library by dragging it to the iTunes window (or choosing File > Add File to Library), a reference (or “pointer”) to the item—not the item itself—is placed in the iTunes Music folder. You can change this setting so that iTunes copies files you add to your library to the iTunes folder. This option enables you to have a copy of all your iTunes files in one folder.

If you want to add all your music on your harddrive into iTunes you can "add folder" and it will add all the music within that and any sub folders into the itunes library.

Lets say, for example, I just put 20 new songs (different artists) into My Music folder... What would be the best way of tackling this? Add each song individually?

Im not positive on this, but I think if you just "add" your whole music folder again. It will only add files that havent been already written. I just tried RE-adding a folder that I already had in my itunes...and nothing happend. No duplicates. I didn't try it with a new file within that directory. Go for it...re-add your "music" directory.

Yeah, I'm just afraid of having all those duplicates... THAT sux! I'll give it a go sometime. Thanks.

I havn't looked since I upgraded iTunes the other night, but used to once you added a folder to your iTunes library there was a setting to auto-update your song list based on what was in the folders of your library. That's how my iTunes is set up, when I first open iTunes the first thing it does is update all the songs available in the folders I specified.

Admittedly I set this up several versions ago and it's just something that's carried forward over time so not sure where you would set it in the current version.

Got another iTunes question... When in iTunes and you go to "Get Info" (the songs iTunes properties) and change the Volume Adjustment (under the options tab) would that also change the song's volume when synced and played from my iPhone? Anyone know?

For example: Pearl Jam when played through my receiver off my iPhone sounds great/good volume, but Led Zeppelin doesn't/plays at a lower volume. Even though both are at 192 kb/sec. I know the PJ song was probably recorded better, but is that the case, or can I increase the Volume Adjustment of the Zep song?

BTW: I do have the Sound Check function on my iPhone turned on. (to supposedly volume level the playback of all songs)
