View Full Version : Wii, x-box, PS3????
So I won 400 bucks last night. Wife figures I'd run out and upgrade the game system. She is smarter than I am, as I hadn't thought of that. I was thinking of getting her and the kid some stuff for Christmas or going to the boats.
So that got me thinking....Wii, x-box or ps3?
I like the price of the wii over the PS3. I really have zero desire to get an xbox. I hate the controller and never been swayed over to the xbox darkside.
So, take in mind, I have a 5 year old. I'm leaning towards Wii. But having said that, I don't want to have to go out and buy all new games for the wii....namely rockband and all the GH games.
Whatchya think.

If it helps convince you in any way, SK has a 360... ;)

Never played Wii until my daughter and SIL brought theirs over during Thanksgiving. Two weeks later I bought one.
Wii sports is the coolest thing that I've played in a while.

wii all the way if you have a 5 year old. I have a 5 year old and he loves :
mario super sluggers baseball
wii sports
mario kart
mario party.
the great thing about the wii is that the coordination doesn't have to be all there for the kids. They can just swing the remote to hit the ball, no need to worry too much about buttons.

If just for you, PS3
For the family, Wii. My 3 year old loves Wii sports baseball and Mario Kart, even though "the wall keeps hitting me Daddy!"

^^^^What they all said.
I've got an Xbox360 and love it, but if it's a family deal you can't go wrong with the Wii. A buddy of mine owns one and it's an absolute blast.

I've been wanting a Blu-ray player and the gaming power that PS3 can only bring to the table, but I have a 4 year-old and a 4 month-old soooo; Wii it is.
The PS3's price is prohibitive also.
I think this holiday season belongs to Nintendo, as it did last year also.
I played doubles tennis and Mario Kart at someone else's house and had a fun time, so I'm looking forward to it. Picked up Wii Fit for the wifey (and maybe me too) and look forward to getting Mortal Kombat Armageddon along with the nun-chuck (spelling?) controller: fatalities should be so much more fun :thumb:

xBox360
Wii graphics will not upscale well on a high def TV. xBox360 looks amazing.
Games. xBox has got the dominant lineup of games.
Streaming Media content from your PC. We play MP3 / Pics from home PC through xBox360. Very cool way to access your digital content.
Download / Rent Movies. xBox Live has option to rent movies. Uber convenient.
If it helps, we have a Wii at home as well and it rarely gets used. The xBox is used lots.

I cannot wait to open the Wii in 9 days!.
Bought it for wifey sort of. But since then, I've gotten wifey's aunt on board to get Mario Party for the kids, Kart for all of us, and Wii play for the family.
My 3 and 5 yrs olds will have a blast I'm predicting.... can't wait.
One thing - I am totally uniterested in the shoot em games and complicated sports/action. I want to open the box and play.
I think this is where the Wii gets it's appeal. Read the Cnet.com review for the Wii.
I didn't read any others though to be honest.
Sounds like its the Wii. I will keep calling Target daily at 8:30A to see if they got any in. I called one store today and they got 14 in today. All were sold by 3P.
Hopefully I can get one picked up before the 25th.
Thanks for the input. I asked the kids today at work what they thought Wii or PS3, it was pretty unanimous for the Wii due to the fact I have a young kid.

T, I was calling Wal-mart, K-mart, Circuit city and places like that. Finally found mine at Toys-R-Us. If you have one close, give them a call. I had to drive to Colorado (50 miles) to get mine.

You want us to be Wii-spotters for you?
I see them quite a bit and could pick one up for you if you promised to pay for shipping and whatnot.
w00t!!!!
2 Target stores within 15 minutes of the crib. The one I don't like going to had them in. I'm guessing they had a solid 20+ in this shipment. The lower case was full, 2 already sold out of there.
I told the girl at the counter that I needed a wii, she got back with me a good 5 minutes later, as she was helping a guy buy a camera. In that time there was no less than 7 other people milling around waiting to pick them up. One lady who got there right after me, had alread been to Best Buy and picked one up, and was getting the 2nd at Target. I had a $10 coupon, so it helped a bit with tax.
I got the wii game, picked up the wii sports with the extra remote and it was recommended that I get an additional nun-chuck, so I picked one of those up too. That should be good for a kick ass gift from Santa for myself and the little guy. A wii and marshmallow guns. Can't get much better!
I really want to get that Shaun White snowboarding game. It looks all sorts of kick ass. I will probably pick up mario kart post Christmas. I'm sure I'll eventually get the GH WT later on down the road. I'm hoping to get some track packs for my Rock Band for the ps2.
Thanks for the input and i'm looking to have some fun over Christmas break.

That's going to be a fun day!
Make sure you go easy with the Wii sports, you don't want to pull anything.

Christmas Break is all sorts of fun....for me and my students. I pretty much have to "work" daily during the 2 week break, except for Christmas day. But, I get a 35" tv out of one of the storage rooms, put it in the room, bring in the ps2, the kids will bring their xbox, wii, ps3's and we pretty much play video games all day long while the teams have practice. Its been the holiday tradition I started my first year at work. I figured that if a kid was going to come in to school, during their break, they should be rewarded with being able to act like a kid. We started with movies and it has graduated to video games.
Last year, the break was pretty much devoted to Guitar Hero 95% of the time. I had never played, and got instantly hooked. I even went out and picked up my own GH3, so I had a guitar there all the time. I'm pretty impressed that I can finish most songs on expert now under 1 year of playing.
I'm thinking this year will be RockBand centric with some wii sports going on too.

wii bit of a bump.
So one of my kids has a wii. He brought it in on Friday. We had school canceled due to the ice storm, but he forgot the remote sensor. Well I had my son with me, and he was pissed because we all ended up playing RB and GH with him only singing a few songs. So on Saturday, I had a wrestling meet at home. My dad picked him up before 9, dropped my mom off at work at 10, so he and my son hit the wrestling meet. My son bee lined for my office and ended up playing wii with a bunch of high school kids for the better part of 5 hours. My dad ended up leaving after about 20 minutes after he said....He's gonna be playing that dumbass video game all day, isn't he??
Well the kid who brought in the wii, wanted to just lock it in my office until Monday's practice. I said, why don't I take it home so he can really get used to it.....and really make the wii under the tree a pretty awesome gift from Santa, not to mention I can practice my bowling skillz. The boy has been going nuts today. He's been playing that stupid ass Mario Party 8 game all damn day long, with the occasional breaks for a quick game of bowling or some Mario Kart.
Needless to say, I'm thinking the wii is going to over HUGE on Thursday when he grabs it from under the tree.

A bit of an interesting thing - you can use two candles or any other light sources instead of the sensor bar. You just need to place them apart the width of the sensor bar.
