What are some good beers to get my hands on.

I live in Northern Illinois (if location matters) so I would have to be able to get my hands on it somewhere... and I like about any styles.

What's good? What should I be trying?

You'll have to head up to Wisconsin or over to Indiana to get some, but try any/all of the Stone Brewing Company's brews. WEBSITE HERE (http://www.stonebrew.com) CRRF

I, personally, like strong ales, both in taste and in alcohol content. Stone's Ruination IPA is a winner on all counts...it would be my suggestion, if I had to pick one.

CHEERS!!!

I'm also fond of Maudite, Terrible and Trois Pistoles from Unibroue (http://www.unibroue.com/index_eng.html).

If you can get your hands on Anchor's Xmas/holiday beer (different receipe every year) DO IT. Also, try some of their Old Foghorn barley wine...tasty!

Just about anything with "Sam Adams" on the label is fairly drinkable. Especially if you can find some of the seasonal brews like Oktoberfest or Winter Lager.

I don't know about others but I'm also a fan of Delirium Tremens. It's a Belgian Strong Pale Ale. You can't miss it with the pink elephant on the label. The local bar I used to go to had it on tap. They have a few other brands besides just Tremens, they all hover around the 9-10% alcohol mark.

http://www.delirium.be/

a few cool facts about it
Delirium Tremens was named as "Best Beer in the World" in 1998 at the World Beer Championships in Chicago, Illinois, USA.[1][2] Stuart Kallen gives it the number one spot in his The 50 Greatest Beers in the World.[3]

and

Delirium tremens is Latin for "trembling madness", commonly nicknamed "the DTs", indicating a violent sickness induced by withdrawal after alcohol abuse.

Shiner Bock. Brewed in Texas and I thought it was mostly local, but I went to a small town in SC last year visiting family and found it. So maybe their distributing. But it's a great beer, and if I'm not mistaken, Papabear endorses it as well.

Oh yeah I've had that here in Cincy before. A local joint (which might be part of a chain) called the Beer Sellar had it. They have something like 60 different beers on tap at any given time.

See, living in the middle of nowhere, you are very limited in your choice of drinks.

A Few stores have a few imports and microbrews here and there, but the selection is very limited. I drink a lot of Sam Adams, because it is fairly commercial and readily available.

Recently, I've picked up 12-pack seasonal samplers from Sam Adams and Lieny's which have had some good stuff in it.

You can get the Goose Island stuff out of Chi-town. But other than that, it's really hit or miss depending on what's around.

Check out Great Lakes Brewery. I would imagine it would be available in the Chicago area as it is brewed here in Cleveland. They make a few very good beers. The Christmas Beer is very good, especially this time of year.

X2 - I was pissed because I missed out on the Oktoberfest this year, by the time I remembered to go grab a case they were all out.

The Irish Red that they make from their Brewmaster's Collection is good, one of my new favorites.

Miller Lite or Miller Lite Ice. There's really no need to drink anything else...

HEATHEN!!!!!

Gerdie if you can find it, any of the ALE ASYLUM (http://aleasylum.com/cms/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1) brews. I'm partial to the Hoppalicious, the MERCY Belgian Grand Cru and the STICKY McDOOGLE Scotch Ale.

Hobgoblin is my fave, but it's expensive as phuuck.

If you want something interesting while you're bbq'ing, look for a smoked porter. O'Fallon, (here in Missouri), makes one that is friggin awesome.

Gerd

We went to a show at the Rialto last night. The bar across the street had Goose Island 312. Holy Balls! That was a tasty beverage, and a local one too. Also the brewmaster from 3 Floyds has opened up a brewery in town,so I gotta go check that out.
