I made this stuff for a card game with friends last night. Holy crap, is this shit great. Bacon coated with brown sugar and cayenne pepper and cooked on the grill.

Here's a link to the sight I found the recipe on.

When I made the Atomic Buffalo Turds this weekend, I did this to the bacon. The ABT's were awesome, and definitely something I'll be making again. Only problem was the jalapeno's had no heat. I wanted a little sweet-heat with the jalapeno's and candied bacon, but just got sweet instead. Next time I'll maybe have to leave some of the membrane/seeds in the peppers.

Used Brat's basic concept, but stuffed with cream cheese, cheddar jack cheese, italian sausage (will try chorizo next time), roasted corn and red onion, some of the barbecue rub from the brisket, and a dash of Frank's RedHot Sauce. Then wrapped in bacon dredged in brown sugar, some more rub, and some cayenne pepper. Smoked for a couple hours until bacon was done.

All the BBQ sites I've seen that ATB recipe on mention that cooking the jalapenos that way takes the heat out of them and makes them very mild. maybe try some habaneros as they are a lot hotter to start with.

I've heard that when you use habaneros they become 'atomic Dragon turds'. Might have to try it (at least once) as the jalapenos just had zero heat. Even my wife liked them, and she can't take any heat at all.

leave the seeds in and then see what happens first.

zemo..I keep coming back to look at this thread and the link. I am going to have to make this for my next poker game. We are having our annual Christmas tourney with $100 entry and about 20 players. I plan on dazzling them with the pig candy and beating their azzes.

I'm assuming you just used a regular grill for these?

got the fixins...going to make the following test types:

all with splenda/brown sugar mix

cayenne

peppercorn

tobasco

chili hot sauce

tobasco

caribean jerk spice

will test them out to see which has the best flavor and then do batches of the best one. I have 6# of bacon to get it right!

Does Splenda cook OK in granular form? I use it in sauces, etc. but never as a 'straight' substitute for plain sugar.

I don't see any reason you can't do these in the oven. Will be giving mine a try tomorrow morning.

Just made another bunch of the buffalo turds to haul to the game with Oz tonight. Chopped up some of the jalapeno guts and added back to the stuffing mix. MUCH hotter than before. Used the brown sugar/cayenne bacon for the wrapping. They're in the oven now. I'll probably try one when they come over and hopefully not eat them all between here and the 45 minute drive to the game...

Thanks for the pig candy link. Made some yesterday for breakfast along with some homemade donuts. Wife loved it.

I tried this on Sunday after church, but I tried to cook it with the potatoes at a higher temp and semi-burnt the lot. Still, not to bad and the rest of the dinner turned out pretty good - grilled corn on the cob, rib-eyes, top sirloin, pork loin and of course the potatoes. Took a few pics and I'll prolly post them latter tonight.

K well this thread got me thinking so I decided to try my hand at some Candied bacon. Tastes rather good!! Cayenne pepper and some brown sugar baked in the oven for around 25min at 350.

Good to know.

I made some simple ABT's this weekend for cards - and applied the brown sugar / cayenne pepper mix on the outside before smoking =

Those were REALLY good. We decided during the game that you could probably wrap a turd in candied bacon and have people lining up to eat them...

Ok, finally made the Pig Candy for the game yesterday, and needless to say they were the hit of the party. Only thing I did worng was not make enough ahead of time, I was still making batches as people were coming in, and I nearly missed the kickoff.
