Looking at maybe getting an HD set.
Probably LCD, maybe plasma.
About 40-50" size.

Medium quality, and price. Sadly no laser set for me. :(

I see that Samsung has gotten good reviews for their series 6.

Anyone got any other suggestions?
Anything to avoid?

Series 6 is top notch! If you are going to put the money into getting the hd service. If not, any SONY above the v series has the DRC in it which definitely helps with analog channels. However, samsung is usually a much better bang for the buck. Real nice deal at BBY right now. 52" Sony v4100 and a ps3, INSTALLED, for $1999.97

I would look at Panasonic. They rate VERY high for mid-line prices.

Best Buy has a Samsung 50" 720p plasma on sale today for $800. I have this TV, and this is a steal (it was $950 yesterday, and $1700 6 months ago when I bought it.

I don't know how they rate in the magazine's but I have a 47" Philips LCD I picked up at sam's back in March. It was on the mid to low end of the price spectrum for that size and type. I love it and everyone that has seen it has complimented on the picture, especially on the HD channels. It's full 1080P and I've watched a few blu-rays on it and they all look great. I paid $1400 for it back in March..I'm sure the prices have gone down some since then.

I wish I wouldn't have read that - I bought the same tv in March for $1200!! Dammit!!

Seriously, though, it's a great TV. No problems whatsoever for me.
