New Chips - Private Cardroom * FYI New Potential Group Buy

There was recent group buy over at Chip Talk that I found in time to get in on. The chips are a Paulson-like knock-off, very similar to the Progen chips you'd find on many of the online casino supply stores. It was a pretty good deal, $0.30 a chip for a pretty good clay replica chip with a "Private Cardroom" label designed by one of the guys at CT.

This chips came in late this week and I have to say, they're pretty damned nice for the price. While they're definitely not Paulsons (they're a little chalky and softer than home Paulsons), for 1/4 of the price I'm psyched that I jumped at the opportunity to upgrade my current set of slugged composites.

I got my order also, but it was missing the black $100 chips. All 500+ of them. So I'm still waiting for Joe to get them out to me.

Have you run into any issues with the different colors stacking up at various heights?

I know the solids in that mold from PI have the issue where 20 red are not the same height as 20 green for example.

Its the only thing that made me hesitate to buy these chips.

Yeah, it's pretty slim but there's a slight difference between the blacks and the other colors. All the colors I have still fit into standard racks, but the blacks are snug. I think someone over at CT talked about sanding them down a little, but with 500 blacks I'll probably live with it, as you'd only notice it if you were really looking for it.

Got the matching cards in the other day, and they unfortunately are nowhere near as nice as the chips:

While most of the decks I got weren't too bad and are playable, several others who participated in the group buy have noted that the coloration of the starburst varies enough to effectively "mark" the cards and render all of their deck useless. I'd say 3 of the 8 decks I got were not usable because of this. The black cards just don't cut it at all (nope that's not dust on the lens):

The cards themselves are pretty unique. They're stiff like a Modiano cards, but smooth like a KEM, & a little slippery for my liking (I am a big Modiano/Dal Negro fan). They shuffle and pitch very well. Overall, if PI can get some better quality control over the color issue, these could be a pretty good deal ($2.50 a deck at the group buy price). But for now they won't replace my Cristallos.

I missed that group buy because I wasn't a fan of the chosen back colors. Guess it's a good thing I did. Although I would like to buy these if they come out with some of the other color choices. The price is certainly excellent. Some of my copags are getting nicked up and some have started to fade, they're going on 4 years old or so now (used monthly).

Hmmm, not want I wanted to read first thing this morning. I picked up some of these from PI on Friday. Luckily they are on consignment right now.

I haven't had a chance to go through them, but I will today and see what if any of the decks I got and the same way.

Just an FYI for those of you who inquired about where to get these, Joe is looking at running another group buy at CT. They'll be a little more this time (35 cents instead of 30 cents), but it's still a good price for a great "non-premium" chip. If it goes through I'll be adding some lower denoms to extend my set for cash games.

You're actually just in time - PI just posted the other day that the 2nd group buy for these is a go. They're 35 cents this time around instead of 30 cents, but that's still a pretty good deal IMHO. I'm going to be adding onto to my original setup to expand it's functionality to lower stakes cash games.

I tried to follow the CT thread, but there's too much shit going on over there, and no one has updated the OP with all the info. I have several questions.

1. How many base colors are there?
2. Are the edgespot colors fixed, or can they be changed?
3. Are the denoms fixed to the base colors, or can they be changed?
4. Some people at CT are talking about solids - does that mean no edge spots?
5. If the solids mean no edge spots, and the denoms are fixed, what are the denoms on those?

For the PCR Group Buy I am pretty sure they running them as is, meaning no changing around denoms to different colors. You might want to contact Joe at PI to confirm this.

I believe Joe has opened up the solids to include all of the base colors. I sent him an email to confirm. The denominations are on the chips with edge spots are fixed:

Yellow (NCV)
Pink (0.25)
White (1)
Red (5)
Blue (10)
Green (25)
Black (100)
Purple (500)
Orange (1,000)
Grey (5,000)
Chocolate (25,000)

The solids have the same denominations. Don't know if the chocolate chips are available. Pictures of all of the chips can be found here (this is Gary's sub-forum, the guy who designed the labels):
