View Full Version : Work Bench Critique

Have been meaning to build a work bench for sometime now. I figured I could make it fairly simple and use the 2 sawhorses I have and build a frame that lays on top of them and then use some plywood for the top. Here is what I have so far in Google Sketchup.

I figure the 3" holes should be enough to get most clamps through. Also lots of places to clamp around the outside. Maybe too many holes?

The plywood with the holes in it is held in place by the 6 blocks on the outside. It can however be slid lengthwise for easy removal or adjustment. I may cut out another piece of plywood without all the holes as well to allow for a flat surface. All the framing would be made from 2x4s.

There would be 3 parts to this: the plywood, the frame, and sawhorses...so would make it light enough to move around and also store off to the side when not needed.

Feel free to offer any suggestions or maybe something else I could add to it.

Probably too many holes. I'd find all my screws and tools on the floor.
I'm not really sure you need any of those holes really.

I've never seen google sketch up - that's great! I can't wait to try it out.

Shoot Aloha Pete a message. He built a pretty pimp work bench that IIRC he shared the plans for or has then on his site with some step by step.
