Decided to start this thread b/c I realized I was inadvertantly thread jacking Bixby's thread... (sorry!)
What in ceiling / in wall speakers do people have or recommend? Are there specific features to look for in these speakers? Pro's / con's vs. tower speakers? Tips on installation? Relative costs?
I'd like this thread to become a discussion thread, or even a display thread if you have a set of speakers and/or installation you'd like to show off.

Wyatt,
Awesome Idea!! Here is my answer to the thread jack
The Jamo/Klipsch merger is fairly recent as I understand, 4-5years maybe, and I'll admit to being a bit out of the loop as I've not been active in that biz in about 7 years or so. That said to my ears, they are a horse apiece. Klipsch always seemed richer in the low mid range, but a tad harsh in the high, The Jamos we a touch flabby in the lower frequency ranges (75-160hz), but really smooth from about 200hz up to about 4-5Khz. It's likely the crossover points in the receivers were poorly configured. But that's my take. If you can vary the x-over points I think either will do you right.
As to in wall/ceiling speaks, KLH hands down. These are really nice speaks for the dough. as to concerns, that depends on the application. For general music/background noise - go 70volt as fidelity isn't as great a concern and the lower voltage will tax the amp far less. If you are looking for HT/High end listening, ther are several things to keep in mind, In walls can give you a ton more low end as they will reflect off the insides of the stud chase (nifty little tip, cut 2x2 inch round holes in the sheet rock about a foot up from the floor and cover them w/speaker grilles. This will give the air some where to go and create a horn like effect for the low end, giving you +/- 2db of 'FREE' power).
I've got to get to a meeting, I'll expand on more later.

Is there a diagram showing the optimal height for speakers in the wall or celiling?
I need to wire one of my parent's rental properties. It was destroyed in the hurricanes and the lawsuit is just now settled. Great thing is that there is no sheet rock at all and I plan on wiring it for everything now.

Speakercraft speakers are the way to go! Awesome sound. OR, get moderno... Moderno actually have paintable grills you can get to match the color of your walls.
