Opinions please

I'm making a sample piece for my next table.It's going to be a full felt raised rail table.I wanted to do something different with the 1/4" gap created by having the rail rest on top of the volara.So I put some Brass tape from Rockler on 1/4" hardboard and filled in the gap.

Then I thought about having another piece on the bottom.

So,my question is,do you think it looks stupid or it might work.I know to build what I want but after looking at it for so long,I need another opinion.

As far as the pictures go, it looks pretty sharp (looks like brass). I really like the brass sandwich (second pic). How realistic does it look live, is it as good as in the pics or does it look like cheap tape cover up? If it is realistic enough and can endure some abuse go for it.

It looks pretty sharp.The only problem with that stuff is it's hard to trim it just right.You can't sand it like veneer.I've also tried using liquid leaf on veneer and that looked cool too but it's not as bright as the tape.

I like the look of the Brass Sandwich, but I think you are going to create more problems than solutions by doing the sammich.

I think option 1 will work well and look sharp too, plus the vinyl and padding will aid in hiding any of the trimming mess ups. If you go option 2 with the sammich, you create more potiential for mess ups with the trimming that you will notice and it will drive you crazy.

I imagine using a router would be the best option of trimming the brass tape.

Thanks guys.I know that no one would notice the liitle mistakes with the trimming,but I know I would.I was also thinking of using brass tape then veneer then brass tape etc..

Why not add the 1/4" strip to the bottom of the rail piece to even it out?

I also like the 2nd pic with the brass sandwich better.
