I have a 32" LCD I'm going to hang up on my basement wall. I have a mount I purchased that says to hang up using two studs, that should be 16" on center. I checked with a wall stud finder and my studs are 24" apart, which is wider than my mount. (yeehaw for the crappy builder who framed these walls).
The TV is only 31 lbs.
Is it ok to hang this thing up with two bolts on the left side of the mount into the stud and the other side with two screws using wall anchors into drywall?
Or should I put the two bolts into the stud in the middle of the mount and then use 2 screws into anchors on each side of the mount?

If it were me Brat, that's what I would do. If for nothing else than reasurrance that it is not going any where. I mean you are already going to put holes in your wall, whats 2 more?

I guess I'm worried that I shouldn't be using wall anchors at all here.

plus if you ever decide to get a bigger tv and that mont works, it's already re-enforced to hold it

I need to hang my 46"er but I am going into a Steel stud rather than a wood stud. and how you explained hanging your tv is exactly how I need to hang mine according to the manufactors recommendations.

I would venture to say that the two bolts going into the stud would be suffeciant. The to outer bolts going into the wall are the for side to side movement. To keep that at a minimum.

I'd probably do two "scabs" on the wall, and then hang off those.
Run two 2x4's horz. across the 24"oc studs, and secure the scabs to those.
Then attach your wall mount fixture to the scabs you installed.
Need a pic? or can you visualize it?

I can see it.
Thanks guys. I think I just needed some reassurance.

Better yet, a 2x6 (or beefier) plank of oak. It can be routered on the edges, stained, and the mounting points can be countersunk and plugged with dowel plugs.

Yeah. Definitely pimp it up if you have the material / effort to do so.

Do you think this would work as well on steel studs. Or do I still need to use anchors on the 2x4's to hold them into the wall? (if that makes any sense)

My guess would be that it would probably be OK with steel studs, but I might use 3 scabs, and carefully measure out the screws as to give them as much opportunity to grab on to the steel stud as possible, rather than self tapping a hole and stripping itself out once you screw it in. If I were doing three, I'd also consider using 1X4 material as well. (versus a 2X4)

Quads, I've tried googling what you have described and maybe its called something different around these parts but maybe a pic would kick start my brain and put me on the same page with you. I'm just not sure what "Scabs" are

Scab is just a piece of wood on the outside.
brown are the 2x4's behind the sheet rock.
red 2x4's (outside) would be what I'm calling "scabs"
