hopefully...have a potential buyer thinking about it. If sold, will begin making a copy of the "Kings Table" on the Stine gaming table site with routered out chip rails. I am working on a new version of a padded rail and also a new side skirting instead of the extra thick padded rail or using edge banding. Will be using spalted hackberry as the primary wood. Haven't decided on color of speedcloth or whisper vinyl so if you guys want to chime in..have at it. It will be either a 10 or a 12 person oval with dual pedestals that I will make. Wish me luck!

I just googled spalted hackberry. Very unusual wood, it seems you can leave it natural or give it a dark stain. I like the dark stained versions better YMMV. Everything I saw was very small projects. Are you going to have to join a whole bunch of pieces together or were you able to find some larger pieces?

I was able to find some fairly big pieces but will have to join them together....but with the design of the kings table I will have cupholders/wood between sections. I am trying to decide what wood to accent the hackberry to use as the cupholder sections. I haven't decided yet on staining...I am leaning towards doing it without stain as this wood has definite character. I will probably take some of it and stain it to see how it looks.

will start it late November or early December. Hope to have it done by feb/march. The rail will be something different than we have seen on either site before. I intend to make individual padded sections in front of each player position that are easily removable(couple screws with threaded inserts....from under the table). This will allow easier time upholstering the pieces instead of one huge rail and also will showcase more of the woods appeal. If it doesn't look good like this when built, will then make a standard padded rail. I envision the individual sections as two elipses approximately 20-24" long that are joined at a 90 degree joint and then padded and upholstered. Make sense?

Always loved that table, the look of the routed chip rails is beautiful. I just could never see the practicality of those rails. The games I hold, we always end with way too many chips to be held in those rails.

Having seen your previous work, I'm sure it will turn out beautiful though.

Friends don't let friends play on speed cloth.

I'm just not a big fan. Why not something softer? Velveteen, nylon, ANYTHING else.

YMMV

A table of that calibur deserves one of Dave's custom cloths.

I will probably have a custom cloth made. But more than likely out of speedcloth.
