Stolen images of poker tables?

Gents,

I came across a local table builder who is using a picture from a builder in California. I am not sure I if the original owner of the image gave the local builder permission (I emailed the owner and I am waiting for a reply).

I started looking at the other images on the site and they don't have the same backdrop. I wonder if the rest of the images may be leeched too... I don't recognize the other images, but I figured if anyone would, it'd be you guys.

The last two were posted over at the other place, the last one being the most recent. The builder is from Calif and has a number of the pictures you have posted above on his site. Looks like the other guy is stealing to me, unless he has his permission.

I emailed Pete (the guy who built the red table)... he wondered how I picked up on it... Four years ago when I was building my first table, I spent so much time on Pete's site, I probably saw the picture in question (the red table) 1000 x. I instantly recognized it from TSoaDK's website.

Plus, Pete is a super nice guy who was more than willing to chat and give advice about both building tables and creating my league web page. I more than willing to help a brother out.

Looks like the leeched images are actually from HPT's page... I know Barry is very protective about his site, so I imagine he'll take the issue up too.

Taking someone else's image from their site of a table that *THEY* built, and representing it as your image, work, or creation on your commercial site is a pretty shitty thing to do.

He started another thread which is now locked. (See Q's link above.)

The last post in that thread was an apology from me. When I saw Pete Lozzi's table on the PTP website, I contacted Pete right away. He told me he hadn't given permission. So I called PTP out on it. Then others started finding the original pictures for the other tables that were on the PTP website. PTP always claimed to have permission to use Pete's table, but he admitted that he used the NEPL table image without permission and that the standard octogon was taken from google images. He said he waould take down the pictures he didn't own, but as of about an hour ago, they were still up.

The story has also made its was to SKPT and CT.

This morning, Pete emailed me and said he went through some old emails and in fact did give PTP permission to use the image of the red table, but asked for a credit link. PTP had not given Pete credit on his site.

I understand PTP is a small time operation, and he doesn't have a huge inventory of tables that he's built. I understand he wants to show what he can build and give the visitor to his site an idea on what options are. I don't understand not making that explicit. I don't understand getting so defensive and worse, offensive, when you admit that you stole at least two of the images.

In any event, I wanted to set the record straight on this cat. I don't want to be accused of rabble-rousing or starting a witch hunt. God knows we have enough problems with the economy in Michigan. The last thing I want to do is bury a Michigan table builder.

A lot of big business sites have "professional" photos. These are often edited to have a plain color background and certain features.

Is this done with photo editing software?? What kind of software would I need to convert some photos I've taken of my poker tables and make them more professional looking for my site?


Is this so you can take other peoples table picks, shade out the background, and post them on your site as though it's your table / your work?

Or is this for tables that you actually build and represent as your work?

First off Quads, I would appreciate it if you did not go around telling people that i've done this before and that I was warned before because I haven't. If I was warned before for doing the "same thing" as you say don't you think I would of removed the images? Please verify in a PM to me on here SKPF, or on any public forum you would like what I have done that I was warned before??

Now, to clarify. Obviously you idiots dont read other threads and just like the media you will believe what you hear.

Pete does not remember giving me permission to use his table picture and thats fine, but I want him to look in his e-mail history and find the e-mail he sent me giving me permission.

I have changed my site, took down all illegal images and hopefully you guys will find something better to do with your time.

I took down all pictures that were in question by all of you and I published my newly designed site.

I obviously never wanted to cause any problems I just wish someone would of brought this up to me in a private message instead of trying to entertain themselves by posting in public. I have been an active member of SKPT's forums for a long time and I have never had a problem with anyone there EXCEPT for Quads...

As soon as I became a member quads got on me for making threads asking for help on table building while I was building my first table. He told me to basically search for previous threads and to not post for help because the topics have been talked about so many times before. Why have a forum just post archives then mr Quads. The fact is you seem like a grumpy asshole so if being an asshole helps you sleep at night or give you some type of satisfaction congratulations.

I am moving on, my site is now better with all legal images so there is no controversy I just wish you all had the courage to bring this matter up to me privately but obviously you arent real men.

You do realize that a good portion of the experienced builders that still check in over at Keens also read/post here now. Good luck getting any more advice on questions like "what foam should I use" from us "idiots". :rolleyes:

From a customer standpoint, I would assume that any table picture on your site would be your own work, unless stated otherwise. Very simply solved with a simple note/asterisk at the bottom of the page - "Please note the tables pictured above are intended only as examples of the various types of tables offered and do not represent my actual work. Pictures are provided courtesy of blah blah blah. Please see my gallery for examples of my craftsmanship."

Plain and simple, you got caught and called out for doing something you shouldn't have, be it through ignorance or not. Had you just said "Hey my bad, I'm just in college & I didn't know any better, I fixed my website..." I think you would have seen most folks respond back with positive comments, your rep would have been on the mend and all this would have been forgotten in a few weeks. Lashing back over at HPT and here wasn't the smartest business decision.

Wow, this is getting really old. This is the first time I've commented about this stuff but this guy is literally on every poker building site I'm on and more. Being a poor college student is not an excuse whatsoever, we've all been there done that. It would be different if you just came on apologizing and left it at that. If you see people talking about it then just leave it be the bigger guy. Instead you have to lash out calling people idiots and calling people names trying to degrade people, which does not help you at all and really just shows that you really are an immature college student.

O and BTW you're tables really aren't that great. Obviously you are a beginner builder and they look decent for a beginner but in no way would I ever buy one of your tables. Also good luck getting help with your other questions like one of the other members pointed out, because I think you might have just burned your poker table help bridges.

2. It was two different topics. HPT responding to your plea for attention, I asked if you stole the image. Here, I came to the table builders to see if anyone else recognized the other tables.

I emailed Pete right away. I wanted to protect his image and any others you may have stolen. And by the way, I was proven right on Pete's table. His permission was granted with the condition that you give him credit. You didn't, so there was no condition.

Wow, this is getting really old. This is the first time I've commented about this stuff but this guy is literally on every poker building site I'm on and more.

O and BTW you're tables really aren't that great. Obviously you are a beginner builder and they look decent for a beginner but in no way would I ever buy one of your tables.

First off, I am active on ONE forum, and its not HPT and not this one

and my tables arent that great but i also don't charge 2,000 to build one so when i get an order for 12 tables they seem to be nice enough.

And the only reason I came here is to defend myself. You can talk trash about someone that isnt even on the forums and the only reason I found this forum is because of people viewing my site from the link in this thread and i wanted to see what kind of low life people were bashing me behind my back without knowing any of the facts.

And each table that we build gets more and more complex and our next table is going to have chip tray inlays, decorative nails with edge banding and pedestal legs and we are in the process of taking care of that order and it will be just as nice, if not nicer than most peoples tables for half the price.

Good to see your experience and quality is going up. That comes with learning and improving on each successive build. Congrats on your business venture as well as on any future ones. Also, your new site looks a load better than the original. It looks more professional.

With that being said, IMHO you seem to be flying WAY over the top here. A couple of guys here seen some images that belonged to their friend being used to promote someone else's building ability. Being the good guys they are, they wanted to make sure their friend wasnt being screwed. Since then, this entire debacle has escalated past the point (if it ever truly was there) of being an adult conversation, and now insults are flying faster than turds in the monkey house at the zoo. Someone (Wedge Rock I believe) publicly apologized to you, you still continue to come here and, to be frank, act a juvenile. No wonder the guys here bad mouth you. I have never met any of them IRL, but they seem a bunch of decent guys who like to have fun, but it gets their knickers in a twist when someone continuously comes here and runs off at the mouth.

So for your benefit, stop with the bitching, listen to these guys because they have alot more experience and alot better rep than you, and take it as a lesson learned.

You have modified your website, only because you got called out on your piracy of photos of tables you didn't build. BFD. Move on and put your focus on your stable of paying customers. We all know how to build a table. Most of us have built several. Hey, PTP-
We can go around this circle all you want. You were warned about it over at SK's some time back when you very first started posting, setting up your site, etc. It was a while ago. None the less, the issue was dead over at HPT when Berry locked the thread, and then again at SK's when it came up over there and you asked everyone to chill out about it. You asked everyone to cool off on the issue and not drag the issue from HPT to SK's and that you were taking care of the issue on your side. I didn't push it, nor did others, and the dirty laundry didn't get aired out. This all, per your request.

Now... a week or two later, you come in here and bring it up, and on top of which, start throwing insults and bullshit around this forum. That's where I come in.

So, here's the end all:
Do what you do on your site. I don't give a shit. I find it shocking that you scalp others work, and represent it as yourself, but hey, if that's your gig, so be it. If you fixed the issue, then it's a dead issue.

Come in *this* forum and start talking shit, insulting users, and taking shots at people leaves me two clearly illustrated choices to offer you:

a) knock that shit off and participate with the group in a mature, kind and respectful manner.

And btw I was re-doing my site well before this ever happened and I have no desire to be a part of this forum the ONLY reason I came here and brought it back up again is because you "man cave members" don't have the balls to come at me and talk to me you want to talk it over with each other. I keep getting e-mails from anonymous people talking shit because they aren't men. I have every right to come here and put in my 2 cents when the topic is me, my site, my business or anything else when I am not even a member here.

I'm still waiting for quads to man up and tell me what I was warned for in the past. I admitted I was wrong in using NEPL's image, and as far as Pete's image I was given permission but I never posted that it was from his site (I don't know why) and as far as the Google image I DID NOT GET THAT IMAGE FROM DRINKSTUFF or whatever site you are claiming I stole it from, I got it as a picture with no link and didn't think putting up a Google image was anything to be worried about...lesson learned


I have changed my site, put in my 2 cents, removed all said images, and lost respect for all of you who couldn't come to me privately to resolve the issue because no one really wanted the issue to be solved. I was never contacted by Pete, NEPL, Google, or anyone else that was deathly concerned with the situation so was anyone really wanting the images to be taken down? Apparently not.

I will continue to post on SKPF and if someone has a problem with me there then just don't post in my threads I don't really care.

He has got nothing to offer us here. Nothing.

He won't abide by the rules. He scoffs at Quads pretty concise and clear warnings. He keeps trying to save his good name by questioning the manhood of the collective members of the forum. He keeps dropping the name of the old joint like he is going to gain respect because he is one of like 5 active posters. We all left for a reason, and his actions are a big part of the reason.

In his defense: He modified a website that nobody here is interested in, but still couldn't take a photo of some platinum SSC large enough to cover the entire background of his website!

A quick google search on your business turned up that you post in many forums... including this one (http://www.webdesignforums.net/html_and_css_help_3/a_couple_of_questions_30590.html) trying to solicite advice from web designers on how you can make your site look like Big Slik's (http://www.bigslikpokertables.com/). That post was only a little over a week ago, so to say "well before" would not be an acurate time line. Also, you were only looking to change your style... not your content. Also, I see that your gallery now contains a new octogon with green felt... I know you have permission from www.mendozasales.com ('cause I asked), but now you're putting it in your gallery... weren't you the one that said that only YOUR TABLES were shown in your gallery? Oops!

Do you really think that images are just floating around in cyberspace? They are hosted somewhere by someone. EVERY picture you find via google, or any search engine for that matter, has the web address that the image was found at. If it's not listed in your NAVIGATION BAR, then right click and select properties to find out who OWNS it.
