I have my quarterly tournament tonight (3 tables).

I get a voice mail from one of my regulars (who's into politics) who was getting on a plane. And he says.

"Now that I heard the debate is on, i want to ask that we pause the games so that we can watch the debate, considering the state of the economy. I think it would be unpatriotic to be playing cards during this time".

WTF???

I hate the tv on during cards... it always slows it down.. i always put on music. Isn't this debate thing two hours long.. no f'en way am I holding up 25 people for a bunch of talking heads.

Seriously.. does this seem odd to you.. to pause a card game for a political debate? Or am I too apathetic?

Stupid request. No way you pause it for this, now if the majority wants the debate on tv, I can maybe see doing that, but it'd have to be an overwhelming majority, and w/ the caveat that if play is slow, people start having auto 30 second clocks put on them.

If a big game was on, you'd have that on, so I can see making that concession.

Sounds like he was making a joke about McCain trying to back out of the debates to focus on the national crisis.

I could maybe see turning it on the TV (even though I really don't like that either), but to actually stop the Game for the stupid debate????

If you're going to watch the debate, stay home, watch the debate.

If you're going to play cards, go to the card room and play cards.

Update..

I played the voice mail to three people at work.. and they all said he was dead serious.

I even adjusted his seat so he had a clear shot of the tv. When he showed up.. he was totally messing with me.... damn!!!

During the game he had his iPhone streaming the debate.. just to f'with me some more.
