Gents,

I'm going to be doing a table featuring a 2 ped/ stretcher configuration; this'll be my first stretcher build.

What's the best way to fasten the stretcher between the 2 peds?
I'm thinking a glue & dowel build would be the standard/best way to go.

What's everyone else's preference?

Here's a pic of the table the customer provided as my prototype:http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b201/MisterShark/EricsCarlsonsTable.jpg

Hanger bolt is the only way.

Thanks guys.

Adams' site is down at this time but I see the hardware piece on Rockler's site.
Home Depot and Lowes' sites are practically useless when attempting a search. Not sure what their webmasters get paid for exactly.

I've seen that part used on some other furniture but had never incorporated one into a table before.

Go to McMaster Car and search "Hanger Bolt" then select "Studs" up in the top window
http://www.mcmaster.com/

They have about 60 diff. onces listed that they sell. All in their catalog under Wood Screws Threaded Studs Type

Funny...I had no issues getting onto the Adams site. Oh well as long as you can get what you need. Good luck on your build.

McMaster is the shisnit for all your hardware needs

Their site is up now but when I tried hitting it last night it wasn't even pingable.

Thanks again.

OK, so I'll be using one for each side of the stretcher, right?

Depending on how tall your stretcher is, you'll usually use 2 or three per side.

two per side...also....you might want to stagger them on the stretcher(not exactly centered) so you are less likely to split the wood(the ends of the stretcher) when tightening it down.

I need to clarify how to install these things.

Following pilot holes for the stretcher and a full-size insertion hole for the ped, wood screw end of hanger bolt gets socked home into hanger

Insert machine bolt end into pre-drilled ped

Reach into inside of ped and slip washer onto machine threaded head of hanger bolt which is now protruding inside of ped cavity

Attach locknut to machine threaded head of hanger bolt and snug with socket wrench

Do I have this right?

sounds right

I use a lock(split) washer instead of a locknut. To each his own. Should work just fine
