Alright, I'm going to pull the trigger on online poker for money. I'm making a deposit at Pokerstars.com to take advantage of their deposit bonus. In fact, I already tried this this morning and it wouldn't let me make a deposit from my credit card. What's the deal?
And then the wifey asked how does one get the money out given gaming laws? Since I don't know, thought I would ask ya'll. I live just outside Dallas, Texas, if that makes a difference. I thought the gaming laws had relaxed enough that one could charge a deposit to a credit card and retrieve money easy enough.
Those of you who play on Pokerstars.com, how do ya'll deposit and get your meaty paws on that cash?

You won't have any luck using credit cards in the US.. although i've heard about somepeople having success with "Pre-paid" gift cards.
The best way is to use the "e-deposit" option. It ties to a checking account through a routing number.
I created a separate checking account with very limited funds and have used that to put money in. Very easy. Keep note that the first time you use it, it only lets you put in $100. (I found that out the hard way when I was trying to leverage a bonus).
I haven't taken money out using e-deposit, but in the past, they had just mailed me a check that showed up in the mail, with no mention of poker stars.
Banks are not supposed to allow for money to flow between their institutions and gambling sites per the UIGEA.

What he said.
Used to be able to use your CC directly.
Then, buy "phone cards" with your CC, and cash them in for PStars $$$.
Then, use any number of middlemen (NeTeller, ePassporte, etc.) to make CC or bank deposits, then move $$$ over to PStars.
Now, the only option (I know of) for US players is the eCheck option.
eCheck works for both deposits and withdrawals. Behind the scenes, I think they are clearing the $$$ through another entity/bank, so the US banks see the transactions as NOT gambling related.
As of today...
Write your Congressman!!! Keep (re-make) poker LEGAL!!!

I have always bought in with my credit card, but the last time I did (about a month or so ago), I got charged a $5 fee and then interest on top of that. Never seen this before, but they have on their site that it's like a cash advance...anything to do with virtual money online (ie. gaming).
Next time I plan on buying in with eChecks. Do you know that if you bought in with a credit card previously and now buy in with eChecks, can you withdraw with eChecks instead of having to put it back to your credit card? I have never withdrawn before, but may have to get a bit of cash out of there soon.

The laws/rules/options in Canada are definitely different than in the US (currently). We haven't really been able to use a CC for this sort of thing for years...directly, at least. ;)
I believe you can withdraw via ANY of the legal/viable options available to you, within the set rules. i.e. eCheck withdrawals take 5 days to clear, paper checks take 2 weeks, CC can only be up to the amount of your deposits, etc. Take a look at the website and see what it says (specifically), but, from my recent activity, eChecks works nicely for withdrawals, too!

If I click on the Cash Out button, the only option is Visa, since that is the only method I have deposited before. I will have to wait until my bonus clears and then try depositing with eChecks and see if I then get an option of what method to withdraw.

I deposited $75 via echeck on friday for the first time.
If I play another session like that one, I won't be worried about a cash out.
I should stick to live poker.... much more fun in my book.
telepathic - where "outside Dallas are you?" We're looking for players in Highland Village.

mikeneron, I had the same thing happen to me on tilt..I bought in using my cc and i had some crazy finance charge and fee that was almost 10 bucks on my 50 buy in....done with that now. I just have friends ship it over and pay em cash when i get the urge to quickly and painfully lose money online.

You can only withdraw funds via a method you have used to deposit.
I've done the echeck withdraw, and it is pretty seem less and quick. But your deposited funds have the clear the banks clearing house before you are allowed to withdraw it. Usually takes about 10 days.

I have not tried Poker Stars, but I have done a deposit to Ultimate Bet a couple of times. Citibank mastercard seems to work fine there. Though the charge comes up as African Holding Co, or some such nonsense. Unfortunately my mad poker skills have not quite developed to the point where I need to withdraw.
Also, Sunset Pizza, I am just south of you in Flower Mound. Let me know if you are looking for a player (who evidently loses more than he wins....) :)
