So, we moved north last year and have been renting a house. The house has a 24x30 shop which we just had a bunch of misc. stuff (including a couple thousand copies of our book) in there. Ever since the move, all of my woodworking tools have been in storage. It occurred to me a couple weeks ago that I should move my tools to the shop and the misc. crap to storage so that I could start doing some fun stuff again. The shop had only a single bare bulb and one outlet. Since we're only renting (although we may eventually buy this place) everything is 'temporary' and could be removed if necessary.

Took a couple weeks to get everything moved around and I just completed the electrical and dust collection tonight. Over the next few days I'll be going through each tool and checking aligment, squaring, tweaking, etc. since they've been in storage for so long. Will hopefully be making some sawdust by next weekend. This is awesome, as all of this stuff was crammed into a standard two car garage while we were in Boise. Now I finally have some room to work.

Here's a few pics:

The outside of the shop, and my Avalanche.

Shelves, benches and the 'tool island'. I put up a temporary pole for power and vacuum.

The bench and the shopbot. There's still some work to be done getting that up and running again. Also, the computer didn't power up today, not sure what's up with that yet.

Another shot of tool island, this includes the planer, jointer and bandsaw.

Miter saw and benches. Note to self, you don't really need to go replace the miter saw with the really sweet Milwaukee one you saw at the tool store the other day.

Table saw and dust collector. The router insert is missing as the router is at the shop getting new bearings.

Another shot of the shopbot.

The pizza oven.

The pedestal that I started about 2 years ago. The suits are inlaid with wenge and padauk. First project will probably be to finally finish this table.

One last shot where you can see the temporary power pole, etc.

Next up, need a fridge and a couch. Oz, get some plans made and we'll have to build us a table or two...

I originally bought the shopbot with the intention of doing tables, etc. Embarassingly, I've never completed a table since I bought it. I've cut a bunch of signs, plaques, boy scout award trophies and a whole bunch of inlaid cribbage boards with it.

To be honest, I have not got my money's worth out of any of the tools yet. I'm hoping that will change now that I have the room and time to get some more involved with it.

The only cooking I do out there is pizza. That's an old thrift store oven that I disabled the door locks on, and filled with a layer of brick. I'm cooking pizza on the self cleaning cycle at about 800F.

I hope so. It wasn't useable up until this week. I don't really have a local crew to play cards with yet around here.

OMG --- dude you never told me we have a place to play!

I LOVE IT!

And as far as having guys to play --- we need to get you a couple tables done and then they will be there (build it and they will come).

I was just thinking about having a game real soon, small 10-20 buy in for 10-20+ guys --- but now I see where we will be hanging out.

Very, very nice!

Tell me more about that building? Mfg? Steel shed on weed framing? You build it? Pay to have it done? Price, etc.?

Quads, We're just renting the house, and it was already here. Most of the houses on this street have them. It's wood frame, a layer of insulation and then a steel shell. We've looked at having the same builder build us a new house and this size shop was a $23-25K upgrade. My neighbor has a 30x40 which I think goes for $30K. Don't know for sure what you could do it yourself for.

Oz, we'll definitely build a couple tables, and if you guys are willing to drive out this way, I always treat my players right. We really should have a game on your new deck while the weather is still decent.

Dead, the Ryobi saw was the first tool I bought. I know better now. I've definitely learned to spend a little more up front so you don't have to buy it again later. In it's defense though, with a decent blade, it's chopped a lot of wood for me.

I bought the Shopbot directly from the manufacturer: www.shopbottools.com

It's a 98"x46" 'PRTAlpha' model which I think was about $13K 3-4 years ago when I bought it. That didn't include the computer to run it, bits, etc.

Looks like the latest generation of this version is going for about $15K. They have other models/sizes ranging upwards from $5K. You could get a PRSStandard with the 98x46" bed for $10K.

I've got around $20K into the tools, etc. out there. If the wife complains, I ask her if she'd rather I go buy a couple snowmobiles and a trailer. She usually quiets down...
