the following is a "how to" on gluing and trimming foam onto a poker table rail.
i am not saying this is exactly the way it should be done, just the way that i do it
the following rail is 44" wide x 92" long,. the rail itself is 5" wide.
i am using our 54" x 108" 60lb. 1" hd foam and instabond adhesive
step 1:
lay rail "top side" face down onto the foam:
make sure you check to make sure you have it positioned evenly all the way around before gluing.....

step 2:
i like to raise the rail up & spray a little adhesive onto the wood and the 1" foam to create a "tack" to
hold the foam in place as i work.

step 3:
going around the outide radius of the rail, i spray adhesive onto the edge of the wood rail and the surrounding foam.

step 4:
let the adhesive sit for about 1-2 minutes to allow it to "tack" then begin pressing firmly the 1" foam up and onto the wood rail:

step 5:
double check the foam to make sure it attached all the way around the rail
here, the foam did not have enough glue, so i sprayed some more to this section and then pressed it together:

picture of foam wrapped around outside radius:

step 6:
begin trimming excess foam off of rail
i like to use a foam saw like this one with the foot removed:
http://www.jbadesign.com/poker/yat/07.jpg
you can also use an electric carving knife to trim the foam.
if you do not have access to a foam saw, or carving knife, you can use a razor blade to trim the foam.
you will have to use a couple of razor blades though, because the glue will build up quickly
on the razor blade and make it dull....

foam trimmed off of rail:

be sure not to throw your trimmed off foam onto the floor, it still has glue on it and can stick to your floor.
you then end up trying to pull chunks of foam stuck to your floor....

step 7:
begin spraying glue to the inside radius of your rail:
http://www.jbadesign.com/poker/yat/11.jpg
step 8:
cut the center portion foam out of your rail with a razor blade:
http://www.jbadesign.com/poker/yat/12.jpg
http://www.jbadesign.com/poker/yat/13.jpg
step 9:
cut strips into the foam where the rail curves on each end:
this will allow for the foam to flex when you begin applying it to the wood.
http://www.jbadesign.com/poker/yat/14.jpg
step 10:
begin applying the foam to the inside radius of the rail.
the strips that you cut should look like this:

step 11:
trim excess foam off of inside radius:

finished rail:

if you have a rail with cup holder cut outs, you will need to cut the foam out of each cup holder hole:

all done!
