Anyone ever done a DYI inground pool? I want to add one, but dont want to spend $20,000 + on a pool.

Basically, I am curious to know if anyone has any experience doing this themselves, or any other worldly advice they would like to pass on.
The parents put one in back in 1984. Had a company do it. Took forever it seemed with the pros doing it.
What I'd do is an above ground with a nice big deck around it. Possibly a few levels of deck up or down off the main deck. Could be pretty tits if you ask me, plus you wouldn't have a big ass hole in the ground once you decide to get rid of it.

Tits. Never heard of it?
Anyway, my sister has an above ground pool with a sweet ass deck around it. My BIL is a construction guy and built a huge rap around deck around the house and pool. Looks really good.
I'll post some pictures of it when I get a hold of the camera.

I saw "cinder blocks" and thought, oh no. I pictured a total hillbilly setup. But I cruised that website and they're nice! I was really surprised to see people do this on their own. I'd like to see you do it and post pics here. It's pretty interesting.

I had a buddy who had a pool put in about 2 years ago and we watched them from start to finsih, what we noticed was that the pool company hired all sub-contracors to install the pool, one company to excavate, another to rebar and ganite (plaster), a independent concrete contractor, and an independant mason for the stone work. We did some research talked to the crews on checked the internet figured by playing the general contractor he could have saved himself about $7000.
I remember there was a site we found of a family that did it that way that had the hole thing step by step...the building process. Think we just searched google for DIY Pool.

I am seriously thinking of trying it. My next door neighbor runs a backhoe at work, and said if I rented 1 for a weekend, he would dig it for me gratis. My boss's son also does concrete work, and has always given me a discount when I get him for a job.
Im thinking that for around 8-10 grand, I can get a nice size pool. Im seriously thinking of it

Here are those pics I was talking about.
My Sister and BIL bought this place a while back out in the country. It was a fixer upper, but the first thing they did was put this pool and deck in. Pretty nice, but he didn't do to well with the staining. He's actually in the process of refinishing that right now.

Standing right outside those sliding glass doors looking into the pool. The pool has a separate locking gate to keep the kids and dogs out of there. Out past the pool, the deck continues around the house above their garage.

Here is the deck coming around the house. You can see the pool off to the left.
