I haven't compared Blu-ray (or HD-DVD) next to "regular" DVDs, but this sounds kinda good. Maybe a step-up in quality, before one makes the full jump into true/complete Hi-Def (1080p display AND input source).
After losing out in the battle to define the high-definition successor of the DVD, Toshiba Corp. has turned its attention to the next best thing: the DVD.

I dunno. I have one of the best upconverting players, an Oppo 971, and it can't hold a candle to HD broadcasts in 720p. The XDE sounds like more of an upconverting improvement, but if you feed it 480 lines of info, you still have 480 lines of info and you'll never get 720 or 1080. For me, I'd be more tempted to wait out the price drop on Blu-Ray. But with technology, there is no right answer. Do whatever makes you feel best.

You're right, of course.

Personally, I've already moved up to Blu-ray & a 1080p screen and LOVE IT. Just figuring this might be a slight step up, in case someone needed to make a change, but didn't want to move to Blu-ray just yet.
