What's up guys. I'm in the planning stages of my next table, and I'm tossing around some ideas for a pedestal base. I'm going to try to build them myself, as I'm looking for something a tad different than the typical pedestals you'd find at Adams or Rockler. Here are a few rough mock ups of a concept I'm looking at. Any comments or suggestions are welcome. I'm debating whether I'd need a stretcher in addition to the bottom "shelf", or if that whole bottom shelf thing is a bad idea (people hitting it with their feet).

Edit to add a few more pics with more detailed feet:

I personally don't like the feet. The shelf is a cool idea as long as you don't mind it being used as a foot rest too.

interesting idea. The shelf would be used as a footrest for sure. Should be plenty stable and much cheaper than a purchased pedestal.

Added a few more pics to the original post. A little more detailed version of the feet (rounded corners).

I like the rounded much better. It also seems like the side feet come out very close to even with the side of the table. Depending how people are seated they would have to straddle the feet. I don't know if that is how normal ped feet are or not. Looks pretty good though with the rounded feet.

Good point, I still have to refine my detailing. I'm going to try to match the overall support footprint that you'd find on a typical store-bought base to ensure that it's both stable and won't get in the way of people's feet when sitting down. Thanks for the feedback!

please be sure to post pix/dimensions when done. Looking forward to seeing another variation on a theme.
