So heres the deal. I have a two story home that has a third floor loft. I decided to frame it out, and build a third floor media/game room. It will add about 450 sf to the house when Im done. Heres the first couple of pics, should have it done by the end of August. I am doing all the work myself. Pulling permits-----explain that one later.

Are you running any HVAC to the floor?? Seems like it might get awful hot during the summer months....

It has two vents that will be in the space already, one from the bottom and one from the top units. Perfect!!!

That'll work. :)

Looks like it could make a cozy little game room.

Never mind HVAC, are you running AV lines for the hidden webcams? We want more footage of the massage girl!

I'm not an engineer or anything, but I seems as if this joint here (see under my little arrows at the top of the pic) is holding an awfully large load with the way it is currently secured. Holding the regular load from across the room, then holding the board that is stretched the other way.

Just curious.

Good eye...actually that joint is more secure now...it has been directly tied to the board to its left(in the pic) which is the frame of the whole thing.

Put a fire pole through the floor. It could be used for "other things" as well. ;)

Forget the massage girl. I want to see more chick-on-chick action! Invite those chicks over! Post pix, or pics.

got any drawn up plans of what you are going to do to it?

gator20
08-20-2008, 08:55 PM
Nope...no plans.. Just the ideas in my head. It will have one of my tables in it, and a 100" projection screen, with a half bath.

are you pretty well sold on putting a 100" Projection Screen in there?
a TV that is "too big" (yes, it's possible) is not a pleasant experience

here's a chart

Sweet ass set up. You mud the walls or hire that out?

gator20
09-05-2008, 02:58 PM
Ive done everything myself. The texture absolutely sucked, but painting it is coming in a close second!!!

I am still confused as to how you did the floor. Didn't you have to put any support beams in? Are those 2x6's you used for the floor? Maybe I am just not looking at the pictures correctly, but it just doesn't seem structurally sound enough.

gator20
09-05-2008, 05:17 PM
Actually it is solid as a rock. Before this started I had an architect buddy of mine come over and draw it out. Yes those are 2x6s, the logest stretch of any one of them is 12 feet and support beams have been added after those original pics were taken, the pics make it look a lot wider than what it is. There are no pics of it here yet, but, on the outside of the new stairs there are support beams tied into the floor below. I will take pics of that and post later.

God, I hope no one ever shits at one of my games... Some of the dudes are freakin big and smelly, and I cant imagine what kind of damage they would do to my house if they dropped bombs during a game.

nicely done. However, with the action you get I would have expected a plastic cover on the couch! LOL

Doing my garage over and those walls are something im interested in. Howd ya do? Was it easy?

gator20
10-27-2008, 11:40 AM
No, it absolutely sucked, and painting it was worse. But, I love the way it turned out, it gets a lot of compliments.

If you have every done skip trowel method, its similar. I used more mud and pulled off the trowel before it made definate lines. Hard to descibe in words.

gator20

Sort of....and the ceiling is a very dark chocolate color.
