*********Edit:

Hi Everyone-

Ok...the ordering page has been set up. We will accept orders starting immediately, and going through February 7th. In case you might be busy that day (which you most likely will be...there's a little game going on), you might want to order early. The chips will not be produced until after the ordering period has ended.

If there are any questions that are not addressed here or on the ordering page, please let me know.

http://www.abcgiftsandawards.com/seatingchips.htm

Thanks,
Gene

******************

This is not a group buy in the typical sense, but there is an opportunity here. please read on:

I’m having a forty count set of ceramic seat assignment chips made in the style of the early 1900s crest & seal chips. Colored suit on one side, numeral on the other. Pics of original crest & seal chips can be found here: http://www.antiquegamblingchips.com/seycrsl.htm

Each chip is unique so making seat assignment chips is anything but efficient and this is why it is rare to find a manufacturer willing. Gene was gracious to accept my order – I suspect it was not an easy decision because it is such a PITA to produce them and I know it is not the type of project he undertakes often. My gratitude is immeasurable.

So, long story short (too late) I asked him if he’d be willing to wait a couple of weeks on the production of my chips so I could explore the possibility of other PMCers placing orders to make his expenditure of time more worthwhile. In somewhat more eloquent words he said, “ah, yes”.

Here is Gene's take on it: If there aren’t any responses, then we’ll just move forward with your order as is. If there are some positive responses, we’ll set a timeframe (probably 2 weeks if that’s ok), along with ordering instructions. $11 per set of 10 chips, US shipping included

:eek: Yep, basically the same price as stocked bounty & show 'ems :eek: Gene is definitely "Da Man"

The simplicity of this design appeals to me in a nostalgic way that others may or may not find appealing. But if there is any interest at all it is worth my wait to benefit Gene and any PMCers that want to jump in on this.

I’m relatively new here, and I don’t want to be misunderstood or misinterpreted, so I feel compelled to say I’m not deriving any benefit from this deal, I'm paying the same price anyone who jumps in is paying (even if no one else jumps in).

So if you are interested in a set of 10, 20, 30 or 40 seat assignment chips please post up.

Thanks

~ Ken

Count me in.
I don't host tourneys much, but I'm kinda a chip whore, and love supporting forum sponsors.

I'll figure out how many I want for a total count. Probably 2, maybe 4.

Funny..... I was thinking that I wanted some seat assignment chips last night. The most I ever do is a 2 table poker night, so I will take 2 sets of chips. Can we designate which suits we want? If so, I'll take 1-10 of the spades - and 1-10 of the hearts.

Thanks! Let me know how to make payment

(btw - are you set on those colors?)

I like the concept. It'd be nice to do a custom color option. I have a blue and red table. It'd be nice ot make one color (1-10) red and another (1-10) blue.

Might hafta just have Gene do a custom set.

I assume these are going to be drawn out of a hat/bag. Not to alter your concept, but if you did all the same color obverse, you could put them out on a table for a draw, having the reverse color coded.

Trann

Ooo, I might want this; I know a couple others who might, too.

Need at least the weekend to ponder.

Wedge, I think there is 1-10 of each colour; the demo there is just to show samples of each colour with a few numbers.

I'd love it if the backs were coloured black and white. That would look slick.

good point. I would prefer to lay them on the table for people to pick as well.

Yeah, I get that. But because the colors are different, they'd have to be drawn out of a bag rather than placed on a table and selected. That's fine, I was just offering a different opinion.

My thought was if I could get 20 chips with the same obverse, and then individualized reverse (1-10 for red table, 1-10 for blue table), I could lay them out on the table for seat selection. Same thing as drawing cards, but you don't have to fish the deck.

Trann

I'm with you on that: same backs all the way.

I envision the single spade and in black and white 8)

First off, Thanks guys for the responses. I really appreciate it.

Wedge: I didn't want to take up too much space with a picture of 40 chips so the picture above is comprised of chips from each set to give a idea of what the font looks like, what each suit looks like, and what the color looks like. As far as each set goes: All the Clubs are blue and numbered 1-10, all the Spades are green and numbered 1-10, all the Hearts are red and numbered 1-10, and all the Diamonds are yellow and numbered 1-10.

Doc: Yes. Orders will be by the 10-count set, so you can choose which ever suit(s) you like.

And regarding the payment question; at some point after it appears the interest level has peaked, or possibly sooner, Gene will determine how the orders will be placed.

Lastly, I have an email in to Gene asking what the shipping rates are for Canada and for all other International orders. I'll post his response later.

~~~ LAUGHING OUT LOUD!!!! THANKS, I NEEDED THAT!!!!!!
Monkey - Just to be sure that I understand this correctly, the backs of the chips will be DIFFERENT colors.....right? and if that is the case, they can only be drawn out of a bag because otherwise the person drawing would see the color of the chip and ultimately know which table they would be seated at. If this is correct, would you consider making the backs of the chips all the same color? This way the host could have chips out on the table (face down) and have enough chips to draw for a 2 (or more) table tournament.
@ Monkey Booger: Quick question: Is this an *EXCLUSIVE* group by to PMC or is this offered elsewhere?
@DR Lec.: Drop all the chips in a crown royal bag and draw from there. So long as the puller of the chips can't see in the bag. (or randomly pass them out yourself, telling people to stfu and take their set!)
X2 on the laugh!
Doc: Your understanding is spot on. Multiple table games would have to be drawn from a bag.
I'm not against losing the multiple suits in favor of a unified design, but I'm reluctant to add it as an additional option. Bottom line is, I want something multiple people can be happy with, while at the same time making the production as easy on Gene as possible.
Maybe a poll is in order? something to effect of:
Keep the sets as they are
Unified face (ala Trann's black/white spade suggestion) with different backs
Unified face with some other design
I don't think I can create a poll in this thread now that it is established. Q, are you able to creat a poll here with your mad skillz?
What were you planning for the chip edges, a solid color?
Re: the chips / design: I say keep them just as they are.
Re: The GB, by all means. Extend it to build the order larger, but use PMC or yourself as the proxy for the GB. More chips, mohar bettah. I cant' mention the other site otherwise I'll have to pay a royalty for use of the name, but if there are peeps there that wish to contribute, by all means. Another idea would be to clear it with Barry @ HPT and potentially gather some interest there.
It's exclusive to PMC, we don't want to spam other forums. However the larger the order, the better for all involved.
Trann
The colours and type on the face are nice.
I'm for changing the backs only: either the single suit on the original design or using one of the motifs on the source page:
http://www.antiquegamblingchips.com/clay/chxB.jpg
(EDIT: odd, why is that spade "upside down"?)
I expect the edges can be anything -- even a simple solid colour to match the backs -- as long as the face colours aren't visible.
I'm willing to help with design work for this, if needed.
This is getting like Chip(pay-to)talk.
No, you're initial inclination is spot on. Draw them out of a bag. It works. Just a suggestion, though, you may want some other "NCV"-like option, in case people want more than four tables...or if they want just one table but don't want one suit (to the exclusion of the other four. Something like Trann suggests with all four suits would be perfect.
Wow...I sent Monkey my response yesterday, and today I show up to find all of these replies! To answer some of the questions:
Pricing / Shipping Rates: US = Free. Canada = $1.00 extra no matter how many are purchased. All other International = $3.00 extra for the first set of ten chips, $2.00 extra for each additional set of ten chips.
Design / Colors: At this point, this is Monkey's order, and he's opening it up for others to jump in if they would like. I would like to keep the chips as he wants them in terms of colors because of this. If there is a large demand for another design / standard color on one side, etc., then let's do this separately.
GB Offer Location: At this point it's only here. I do have a forum at HPT, so we could post about it there, but to be honest, I don't get many hits there when I post. If we post it in my forum there, it can be added in the poker chip forum as well, without needing any permission from Barry. I obviously can't post about it at that other place...nor will I bother to list it's copyrighted, registered, and trade marked name. ;)
Thanks,
Gene
Command decision time: Chips stay as they are for this buy.
Once Gene opens up the order: I'll get word that I placed my order to venues outside of this forum, and I'll do it in a manner that does not sully the rep of PMC or ABC.
With regard to alternate designs and Gene's offer to do them separately if the demand is present: Count me in.
Trann
If the price is higher for a second design, I'd sooner just go with these and Crown Royal bag 'em (I was thinking the same right off, too).
If the price is the same and interest is there -- Gene, what's your minimum for this to be viable? -- I can create a thread for the alternate design (back: one design; face: four colours, with numbers 1-10 on each) and do the mock-ups for consideration.
Someone would be welcome to spread the word when this final design is done to increase the numbers.
Trann
01-29-2010, 01:30 PM
I'm not interested in breaking this existing design: it works and it's nice. There may be a few of us locally that will pick up something out of this no matter what happens.
But, given the opportunity, I'd go that step farther and get a design that fits my usage even better. It's not meant to make everyone happy: just me. 8)
I figure there's no harm in trying.
