View Full Version : My Basement Man Cave

About six months ago, I decided to clean out my basement, then realized it really had some good space. The basement was already finished when my wife and I bought the house, but it lacked testosterone. So first I added a Triple LCD High-Def (1080p) projector with a 75" fixed frame screen and bought an inexpensive sectional. I had to do a bit of build work to convert the small storage area under the stairs into a shelving unit for my components. I also spent about 10 hours fishing wires all over the place for my surround sound and power and HDMI to the projector. Anyway, about a month and a half ago, my in-laws decided to redo their kitchen, so I decided their old cabinets would make a perfect bar. This was much more difficult than I originally thought it would be since I had to retrofit several cabinets to fit the layout, especially for my kegarator, which I use for homebrew. I also mounted a 20" above the bar and tied it in to same output that runs my projector. I plan to add a few extra taps to the column. Anyway, here are some pictures.....

Hells yeah!
That's awesome! Love the faced logs and unfinished edges for the bar.
Awesome man cave.

You also do your own brewing? Several others here do the same.

Nice job. I love everything except that old dresser, which seems oddly out of place.

I love the rough cut timber on the top of the bar.

Thanks for all the great feedback. I will post som more pics after the new year. I am hoping that Santa brings me some bar stools and an adapter for my draught tower that will add two faucets.

Love the set up. Nice case for the chips, too. Does the "ErieCo" in your handle mean Erie County as in Western NY? I would love to see your place in person.

love love love the bar top. Erie huh? I used to work at IBM up there....nice town. Do they still have that Irish pub up in Niwot? Used to go there after work and they tapped ALL their beers (not just guiness) with nitrous.....made for some fantasic tasting beer.

I found it on google maps...it's called "Niwot Tavern" off of Niwot Road. Not sure if it is the same place anymore...but worth a looksie.

Not much has changed, but with the help of Santa Clause, I have added some bar stools, several new bottles of liquor, and expanded my single tap to a triple tap. Also, take a look at the middle tap handle and tell me what you think. I made this from scratch with part of a branch from an old cedar tree. I scraped off the bark and sanded it down, then took an angle slice out of the front of it to really show the grain of the wood. Pics aren't great due to lighting.

Erie,
Great looking space. The hand made tap pull is all sorts of awesome. Very nice work.

Welcome to PMC.

But that old dresser does appear to have a cocktail shaker and several whiskey decanters on it. Which makes it much less "out of place." ;)

Great looking bar, Erie! I like your gin selection, and Wild Turkey is a pretty good choice of bourbon!

I'm not seeing any IRISH WHISKEY - Jameson's, Bushmills, Powers, Tullamore Dew - in that collection. But you almost make up for it by expanding your on tap selection.

Is that just an extension cap on top of your original tower? I haven't seen that before. Where'd ya get it?

The whiskey is on the old dresser that everyone thinks is misplaced. I currently have some Crown Special Reserve, Jameson, and McCullens in decanters. Eventually I will probably get a high top bar table to put in that corner and move the decanters onto the bar, but until then, the dresser stays.

The triple tap is just an extension cap on the original tower. Got it from micromatic.com
