HOME BAR CONCEPT - pour your own or tend bar

I am planning a home bar and am planning designs and concepts. I have a theme and am set on building a kegorator out of a full sized fridge and investing in a push button liquor dispensing system for around $800. Then I began to think that if I were intertaining I don't want to be stuck behind the bar. Does anyone have a concept on a pour your own drink bar. The closest I can think of is 50's style home bars that reset into the wall (no bar back). Then again maybe this is just a bad idea.

Really you could have a "standard" bar and just tell them to go behind and mix a drink. There is always 1 person in a crowd that likes being a makeshift bartender. the Push button liquor dispenser sounds sweet!

THANKS BLAKE THIS IS EVERYTHING I DREAMED. The auto liquor dispensor is $400 for 5 bottles - I wanted a lot more than 10 bottles but I also wanted push button get drink - I'm saving for one of these.

we take turns, a certain person has to do it every time. or if they lose a bet or something.

We all chip in and tip a few bucks each so people don't mind doing it. but after everyone starts to get trashed we usually just get our own, because by the end of the night we are all over the place.

Always had self serve at parties I have gone too
Many people bring their own bottle/beer & the leave whats left
One summer party a friend used to host & he would buy a ton of booze & bartend
He had a tip jar up to cover the cost of the booze
"Tip Ping = not a city in China"

I used to always toss $20 or so in, most people kicked in

If you're going for a "Rat Pack," late-50s/early-60s, swingin' batchelor pad sort of a vibe, it could work. Goes with remote controlled fireplace, music, and curtains approach. Think Playboy Mansion...

Went to the movies years ago with 2 friends
They each brought a pint of rum in & we ordered large cokes
I'm drinking my coke to make room for rum
....stupid mistake
They emptied enough coke to pour a pint into each of their cokes
I ended up dumping some of their rum (colored with soda) into my coke
I tought they had brought enough for me
....stupid mistake
I didnt mind too much since I was driving
