We put an offer in on a new house yesterday. Won't know for a while if we get it. 1 acre in our favorite neighborhood, 4000 sf, pool, spa, etc
Appraised for $1.4m in 2005. We are offering $725k in a short sale.
It has a large area above the garage which I've had the Wife agree would be designated my man cave.
Some themes/ideas I've considered, in order of interest:
1. Pirate
2. Cabin/tahoe/log
3. Island/tiki
4. Dodgers/sports (i have been offered up to 12 originals blue seats from Dodger stadium when they put in new ones in 2005)
Whatever theme I go with will need a TV, Bar, and place for the guitars.
I haven't seen any Pirate themed ones on the internet. I think it could be fun. Anyone find any pics of pirate man caves?

Definitely the Sports theme. If it was appraised at over a Mil you can't cheese it down with a pirate room

Sports theme FTW with a poker table and a video poker. (because you're a fucking luck box on video poker)
That would be pretty cool with the blue seats in there as a conversation piece. Flat screens, kegerator, poker table, batting cage. Fuck yeah.

The poker table is a given.
But funny you should mention the video poker machine. I've been pricing them lately on the web. Seems you can get a pretty decent, actual casino one for $2-2.5k.

Unless there is a waterslide from the room to the pool I'd have to say stick with a sports or lodge theme.

Or, you could have a dick sucking theme for 500K, which based on your other thread, would be a real hit in your book.

seems like the "pirate" theme fits pablo better...but the rest of us would go for the sports theme.

Leaning toward the log cabin theme: log interior walls, hanging antler lighting, fireplace, log bar, etc. Found a supplier for the log walls. Will starting sketching it out when we score a new pad.
These are similar to what I'm going for:

The theme of your cave should be MAN.

Seriously though what happens when you get sick of a certain theme?

I second the cabin theme, and you can fit a sports theme with the cabin/retreat theme easily. Think of all the wealthy millionaires of times past who used to retreat off to the wilderness to play poker, go hunting, fishing, etc. Henry Ford, Rockefeller, Roosevelt, Vanderbilt, and the likes. A rustic theme can be classy and timeless.
A pirate theme might get old, even a sports theme could get old, tired and dated.

Minor update: put an offer in on another house today. Bank owned but the asset manager is on top of things and said she'd reply to the offer w/in 1-2 days. Our agent thinks we have a good chance of getting it.
Brand new const, 3500 sf, 4 acres, custom everything, 4 car garage. I started scouting man cave locations during the walk through yesterday. Wifey has approved.
I have obtained pricing info on full log wall interior for the man cave room, for the log cabin/lodge theme. May need to start hunting for log furniture and some antler lighting. Will update if things go through.

Yeah I have to agree, the sports theme is for sure a good idea. I am just getting my man cave under way and I am going 100% sports.

Update: Have been countering back and forth for about a month on this same bank owned home. Originally listed for $1,000,000 last year. Bank just accepted our counter at $532,000. We're excited.

Well, to be fair, $1mil was the starting asking price. The most recent price drop in fall 2009 was to $600k, so I only got $70k off the current listing price.
