I know this is the man cave site but I live on Guy St so mine will be called the "Guy Room". Anyway, I've been working on this for some time now and we're close to completion. Couches need some cushions and I need to epoxy the bar top...(need some help with that one). I only have a small portion of the memoribilia up so far and more will be coming. The prior owner used this room above the garage as a workshop and it already had all the wood walls done in rough shiplap. It's worked out well becaus ethe rough wood is very forgiving of any wrong nail marks, nicks, dings etc. The bar top is 10 x 3 and is covered with ticket stus from events I've gone to over the past 20 years. I just need someone to epoxy it...any tips or help is much appreciated.

Here are just a few before and after pics (if I can figure how to post them).

Awesome room! I am extremely jealous of all your Pats gear, I'm slowly working up my collection for the mancave.

Great job on the Guy Room, enjoy!

Nice room!

On the Epoxy. Wouldn't a piece of plexy work out better, so you can continue to add tickets?

That is a good idea. I would add some form of clear rubber stip around the plexi to prevent spilled beverages from seeping into the crack and soaking your tickets.

Clear caulk. That way it seals up, but is easily enough removed to refresh the collection.

X2 - great idea. Especially if you ever move, you'd hate to have to leave all that behind.

well I looked into the Plexi and glass options and frankly they are too expensive. The bar is over ten feet long so it would run me about 4-$500. THe Epoxy cost me about $120 when I bought it online. I did make the bar top detachable so if I ever do move I an take it with me.

At this point, I would love to pay someone to come and do the work for the epoxy. I do have a friend that has done it a couple of times but he's far from an expert.

As for the picture in the room, it is a signed Neely poster that I was able to get a while back...good call.

Thanks for all the feedback. Hopefully I'll find someone that knows how to do the epoxy so I can officially christen the room.

Bartopper. Check it out. Many guys who have built poker tables have used it (not being experts in it either) and have done some fantastic work with it.

I saw a tip on one of the man cave shows that said to use drinking straws to blow on the bubbles that form when you poor the epoxy. Something about the CO2 that help break up the bubbles. That's all I know about it though.

Here's a decent video how to for resin:

Ignore the music and quit staring at the girl and pay attention. You'll use enough to fill up to the top edge. Make sure your bar is level before attempting.

1.) Congrats on your hard work
2.) Excellent idea on the ticket stubs! They're under glass, right? I have a ton of football and concert stubs that I've saved and would love to do the same

So I wanted to throw out an update about the epoxy bar top. We finally poured it last weekend. I had some friends that had done it before and for the most part it went well. Some tips for anyone doing something like this in the future...

1. I secured the ticket stubs to the bar top with wood glue. It was a tedious job because I had so many and as soon as the glue was on there, they wanted to curl. I managed to get them all to stick and stay secured but the corners of a few did pose some issues.

2. Some of the tickets actually absorbed the epoxy and saturated a few of them. It didn't happen to many of them but the ones that it did happen to, it made them almost illegible. Most of the other ones absorbed a small amount on the sides and corners but they look fine. I will try to post some pictures sooon.

3. Stay on the bubbles for a while. I managed to get most of them but some bubbles did remain. Not a big deal. I have about 8-10 small bubbles on a 10ftx3ft bar...pretty good.

4. Some of the corners actually poked through the epoxy because it wasn't quite as thick as we thought. We will be pouring one more gallon at some point.

Overall it was a relatively easy project but I'm not the handiest person so I'm glad I had help. If you have any skills at all you should be fine to do this project by yourself.

It does look fantastic and I'm very very happy with it.

PIX coming soon

Love the room! I really like that you kept all those stubs. Everytime I keep a stub...I plan to save it and put it somewhere, but then 6 months later I just lose interest and throw it away. Im an idiot. Those look really cool.

Wow! The hockey pic is Cam Neely, isn't it? Love it!!

I played against Cam when I was a kid. He wasn't any kind of star back then so he was "just another player" lol.

Lovin' the "Guy Room!" All of that wood is just awesome. :salut:

Being a darts player as well, I like the way you were able to utilize that nook to set up your playing area. The dart trophies displayed there are a nice touch too.

I was wondering though, why did you build in the two closets - one behind the bar and the other behind the TV? Seems like valuable space you could have freed up for a stripper pole!
