Long story - we need a new driveway - and are getting a new patio first!
New driveway post later this month...
Ever since we moved into the house we hated the patio tile... it was a brown terra cotta - 6x6 - think 70's Mcdonalds. We also had a deck that was nice and combined the space was decent. The deck is 12 years old or so and really getting worn out and needed either piecemeal fixes over the next 12 years or total replacement.

We decided a larger slab on one level would be great. We had a landscape architect draw up a master plan and chose a contractor (out of 5 bids) who subsequently tried to fuck me over. Found another very reputable company who's been doing stamped concrete in Dallas for 30 years or so.
Saturday, my neighbor Bill and I tore out the deck on a whim, forgetting we were hung over from the poker game.... :) My wife helped haul away and we saved $800 for 3 hrs of work...
I rented a demolition hammer monday and started to remove the tile trying to save me another $350. The concrete guy comes over - sees my progress and offers me a deal - $150 to finish the job.... sign me up .... turns out, after he examined the door threshold, he didn't have enough room for a 2" overlay on the patio so he jackhammered out the patio on tues... damn if that wasn't the worst backbreaking work I'd see guys doing in a long time...

we're also moving the arbor posts out to the edge of the house so they're out of the way a lot more. Here's my temporary handy work supporting the arbor...

the rebar is in - the outside footing trench is 12" - they were going to pour concrete today but we got over 4" of rain last night with a small tornado or microburst about 2 miles south... then parts of DFW got another 6-8" today .
Hopefully they can pump out the footing (moat) tomorrow and pour this bad boy. It's going to be stamped and colored. And huge! over 600 sq ft. This is covering all the area that's constant shade from some big trees behind us and over the playset. Can't wait to see the poured concrete... It's a muddy mess back there now..
more pics to come later!!!
