Need a base for the jack-/teleposts in the basement to cover the exposed cuts of the carpet that will be there. Came across a product that had some nice caps...

Rather than order/buy, I figured I could make 'em.

Easy? How would you do it?

Or is it worth the $45USD (plus S+H, plus 30% exchange) to order a pair?

should be fairly easy to make yourself. Two methods to make it that I can see. First, make it out of solid wood first cutting the octagon and then using a router table with various bits to shape the moulding. Other method would be to buy the appropriately shaped moulding*(looks like it would be in two different pieces) then cut them into 1/8th pieces and glue/nail them together. Your choice. Not too difficult and way cheaper than the price listed.
