Hey guys

Currently renovating my house before it goes to market. Then moving to the country, in a trailer, and building the dream house. So, i have no mancave,,yet, though i do have a pretty good idea of what i want.

Anyways, i thought i'd share pics of my recent bathroom reno.

Here's a shot of me standing in the Master Bedroom, looking towards the ensuite.

A lovely black tile, maroon paint, and carpet. Seriously, who does that ?

Re-painted to match what we put in the bedroom

Busted out all that glossy black tile and put down new stuff with some border.

Took off the old counter top, put down a new one and tiled that too.

Couldn't just leave the floor plain tile. Had to put a little pattern in there.

Cut out the shower insert and tiled some more.

Anyways, that's about it. Not quite done yet, a few hours to go next time i have days off should get it finished, then it's onto hardwood in the living room and stairs.

Great work.

But you should have left a little strip at the entry, maybe in the shape of a lightning bolt or a heart or something. You didn't have to go Brazilian. 8)

Thanks for the comments. The left out strip at the top of the steps is going to be a bamboo stair nosing to match bedroom floor. It's only my 3rd tile job, still learning some tricks, but it's way better than the gross carpet that was in there before.

Love the work... doing great, nice color combinations.
Don't you just hate it. Doing all that work and then moving.
On my first house, I spent three years working on it to get it just the way I like it.
Then I sold it!
So my next house I left it empty for 1 month and renovated the entire thing. Moved into the house and its awesome (for now... lol) way more satisfying. Good luck on the sale of the house.

1. Nice work. Real nice job. Love the repeating border tiles.

2. Tim Horton's coffee, eh? Good man.

3. I'll wait until you've been around a bit longer before I add my third comment... ;) The regulars know where I'm going...

Outstanding work.

Who the fuck is Tim Horton? Why does that coffee keep coming up? Seriously?

I like it - looks like a good return on the investest.

I'd love some more detail on taking out the shower insert and retiling. I'm looking to do that myself. In my case - I'd like to expand the basee too so It's probably a big job.

The shower was about a 6 on a difficulty scale imo.

1) I cut the old fiberglass insert into about 6 pieces with my saber saw.
2) Trimmed the drywall higher, to about 4" below where the tile would start.
3)Built a solid plywood base, flat, with 2 x 6's on the sides and back
4)Built a lip for the front of the shower out of 2 x 2x4's.
5)made a sloped base that drains out of thinset.
6) Covered the sloped thinset base with a waterproof rubber membrane that also extends 8" up the wall.
7)made two shelves inset into the walls.
8 )covered the walls with concrete backerboard
9)Tile. Floor first, then walls.

looks good, but not waterproof.

For anyone looking to do a tile shower in the future, cement board is not waterproof. It actually soaks up water. Tile is waterproof, but grout is not. Average shower gets 1400" of water a year.

Use a membrane over the entire project. If you wouldnt take a shower on in there before the tile goes up because of fear of things getting wet, then your shower is not waterproof.
