View Full Version : not much DIY info on this site

First off, I freely admit that I'm guilty of not being a contributor - I mostly just lurk and admire the pictures of the few mancaves that have been posted.
Look at the numbers. Over 100000 posts and only ~5% are in the DIY portions of the site. 95% of the posts on this site are off topic.
This is a very low content forum in terms of actually discussing anything pertaining to mancaves.

that's because there is a considerable amount of information/thread material at a site most of us used to belong to. The migration of information has been slow/almost non-existant. Come on guys...move your info to this forum so noobs like duke don't have ammo for busting on us!
also...what topics interest you?

JP you're such a suck up.
Duke, we're about hanging out, having a good time, bustin chops, etc..., and that's exactly what we are doing. Until we get more people and posts in here get your ass in the off topics, grab a chair, light a smoke and start enjoying the conversations. You'll find some top notch people here!

lol - I see your point. This site is kind of like a virtual mancave - an online hangout.
I just like seeing everyone's work and craftsmanship and would like to see more of it.

Yeah - I haven't logged onto SK in months - and when I did there were only like 5 new posts within the previous week - it's really dead over there. And what really sucks over there is that all the old pics of the all the work that was done by members was wiped out.
At the moment my time is consumed with anything poker related - playing it, thinking about it, acquiring new poker gear, etc. That's why I like the DIY area of this site as I like to see all the poker man caves that people have built up.

It's kind of unfortunate in some ways, but it's not a lost cause. (yet)
My hope initially was that the PMC forums would get more activity than they have now, and not be so unbalanced to the OT forum, which is where most of the activity is taking place.
Need to figure out how / what to do to get more posting in the design, showcase, and planning forums. We get some, but not enough, IMO.
For the moment, PMC is kind of like the local bar. People stop in, hang out, shoot the shit, and have a few laughs. That is fantastic. There is a very good culture within the OT area. We just need to drive more traffic to the other forums and generate posts to bring more traffic in.

I've been working very slowly on a couple projects. I haven't been taking pictures of them but I'll start and post them up as I get further down the road.

Guilty. I try to post pics when there are noticeable changes like the framing going up, drywall etc.....unfortunately I have been bogged down with work that isn't too exciting to look at (HVAC, Electrical & Plumbing).

If you do take a look around, you will notice that when a person asks a question, it is normally answered, fairly well.
Ask away and everyone here will see what we can do to help.
As far as projects, winter sucks and not much gets done around my house during that time.

What site was that, out of curiosity?

What site was that, out of curiosity? It's name cannot be spoken for fear of it's Croc-ey appendages casting their sullied shadow across these fertile lands. It's chronicled tomes have been known to make men weep in fear as their collective knowledge is slowly sucked from their craniums. We have seen the horror of the Anti-man.....stay away...just stay away

Yep, unspoken is THE RULE at the PMC.
But, with a little digging around, you should be able to figure it out...

I'm curious why everyone left? I am a member there and have noticed that not much was happening as far as posts, but honestly I have been a member there for 3 or 4 years(although not very active) and only found this site a few weeks ago. I do love this site, but as originally stated, it's hard because there isn't as much here. I admit my guilt as well as I am in the middle of building a poker table and haven't taken any pics along the way. I will take some shortly though and start contributing:)
Please don't take offense to the above statement either, I mean this site rocks, I love the pics of the man caves everyone has built, just wish there was more step by step stuff. But thanks for everything you guys do here, I think this place will only grow to be better and better with time!

In summary, everyone got tired of scotts shit, trolling, drivel, etc.
It was time to pack up and leave.
We know when doing that, that our work was cut out for us in building a new site with unmatched content on a totally different topic.
So, we're currently in the growth phase. Albeit not as quickly as we'd like it to be.

When I get my stimulus package from O, I'll have more money to spend on building things
Sometimes it's a slow process -- with the weather changing - there will be more stuff put on.

Building a forum takes time, I ran hrfbody.com for 6 years, and only until last year gave that forum over to a couple of the members to carry on. All be it, our forum is based on locality.

Most of the growth around here is in the pants. Especially when gator gets to posting.

Can't speak for everyone else, but with the current economic slump and the goodies that have come with it (tightening of budgets due to salary freezes, a job loss <followed by a new job, thank God>, etc..) have put the breaks on project spending I was more loose with previous to this recession.
