Well, I just wanted to prove you didn't have to be rich to have a set man cave. So far I have spent 15$ dollars on this room. I have managed to either re-use things I already had, or snag things for free. I'm not 100% finished yet.

To top it off guys, I live in a mobile home. But I'm not a redneck and I don't like living like one. It's just super cheap in over priced Va Beach.

I am still working on the room, but wanted to share my enthusiasm with what I've done so far.

First I started off with a lame boring extra bedroom I don't use. I painted this bedroom a couple months ago and moved my desk in here, but I wanted a manly room.

I came up with this texture wall technique I did in my moms kitchen and had enough left over product to try doing it on a wall in the room. And that's when I got the idea of the "CAVE WALL" I wish it photographed better, because the texture is very rough and very distressed looking. So far everyone who has seen it has love it. It really does look like very earthy.

Then I thought about building a "Refreshtainment" center in the closet. My first mock up idea:

i am not sure when or wear, but someone mentioned a shadow box to me, and I thought it'd look better painting the whole damn thing black, a bunch of black paint later:

I managed to snag the TV and the tool box for free. The TV is an slightly older 37 inch HD ready JVC. I'm not passing up free. The tool box just needed some paint and alil sanding to restore it. I am trying to land a free piece of countertop so I can build a counter above the mini-fridge and tool box.

My sitting area.

Right now I am just putting in finishing touches. I need a surround sound setup, and I plan on wall mounting my rear speakers, and I just decided today to paint the ceiling black, in order to stop reflecting light from the TV when watching a movie.

Also, I need some black out curtains and a few other little things. Still working out some things, but this is what I have so far.

Thought I'd stop lurking.

Oh, I guess I wanted to add that I am planning on installing new track lighting on a dimmer, and I'm hawk eying Craigslist for a black leather couch, if I can find one at a reasonable price in good condition. I'm all about frugal!!!

I decided since I've done so much so far with practically no money, to give myself 200 dollars to spend on this and that finishing touches.

Fuckin' A, bro!

1. Welcome to the forum.

2. You don't need no fancy crib to create a man cave.

3. That is incredibly awesome! There have been Man Caves posted here in the basement, in the attic, in the gargage, and in a shed behind the house. Yours is in a trailer home. No matter. Your mancave plays second fiddle to no other!

It's all with what you are going to do with what you got. And you did good!

Thank you for sharing with the rest of us. Keep posting. We're going to like you, I'd bet.

It's all about self confidence and your attitude, and you have it in spades!

Looks awesome! To me, if it has a chair, fridge, and a TV, it's a cave.........anything else is icing on the cake

Thanks for the replies guys. I just painted the ceiling black this afternoon after work. Looks fantastic.

That's an interesting story. I remodeled my mothers kitchen in her home for her birthday in February, and the kitchen was so old, and the walls had like 6 different textures. I suggested doing knock-down, which when I figured out how involved the process was, I changed my mind and decided to just buy the textured sand paint they sell at home depot.

I'm not sure when, but just experimenting, I took my brush and smacked the wall making ridges, I waited till it was half way dry and came back smashing in different directions with a trial.

There may be a more easier way of achieving this effect with plaster or easy sand maybe... I am not sure. We then picked a color and mixed it with glaze and hand brushed sections of the wall and then waited a few moments, and wiped back over it with a moist rag.

Came out like this:

For my room, I did the same thing, but I added a 3rd layer of paint, I took some dark brown, and used a rag to rub it into the cracks to create more distress and wiped back over it. After I let it all dry, I went around with a sanding block and nicked the edges here and there. I also got some bowling ball wax and rubbed it over the wall.

It's very unique to say the least.

Well pretty much done, I had better start a work out program soon though. I keep emptying my fridge, and I bought all this candy, in those boxes like at the movie theater and well, it just keep saying, eat us, eat us. :monkey:

I did paint the ceiling black, and got my curtains up, so freaking dark in here now. I need to get better lighting for when I'm not watching a movie. But overall adds to the ambiance of the room. And hanging the movie posters high on the wall along with the curtain which is hung high and goes to the floor, helps the ceiling look high. I was really worried it'd look cramped and low by painting it black, but it doesn't.

So if anyone else is thinking about it, black ceilings look awesome!:thumb:

Love this room! I am so envious, cool retro movie posters too! I have several Bond film posters myself but currently have nowhere to hang them.

Interesting to see the black ceiling, never would have thought of that before seeing it. Great job.

You don't happen to have a really big Quantum of Solace poster do you? If so, I think Doctor XXX might be willing to make a deal w/ you. :D

Nah, I worked as a painter for a couple summers when I was younger. Learned to be neat, cut in straight lines and not splatter paint.

Great stuff Wild, and welcome to PMC.

That faux texture looks incredible. I did a ragging technique for the master bedroom in my place and it turned out OK but not worth the effort.
Yours is a home run.
