sorry for the shitty camera phone pics

We went to the local microbrewery last night for the first time.

They have 3 beers on tap. A golden blonde, an Irish ale and a really dark bitter, chocolaty shit too they were calling a stout.

I'm no fan of dark bitter beer like Guinness etc. The guy working hooked us up with some samples. I f'd up by tasting the black beer first. It totally ruined my taste buds for 2 hours plus. It tasted chocolaty sweet at the start, but had the bitter aftertaste of a dry cheap cigar being smoked past the label.

The irish ale was reminiscent of a Killian's, but still had some bitter aftertaste. Too much for me personally, but I still ordered a pint because I felt I had to give it a try. It was like mixing a Sam Adams with a Killian's but with much more bitter aftertaste. Cost was $5

The golden blonde tasted pretty much like a Sam Adams, but was golden in color like a Bud Light. The wife got one of these. 9oz for only $2

As a whole, they are set up to have 6 beers on tap. they got a new brewmaster about 1 month ago, as the old guy they started with got a DUI, and got his liquor license revoked as a result, so he is doing some consulting for a new company now. It sounds like the new guy has a bunch of ideas of what he wants to brew and new flavors and what not.

I'll probably go back, but stick with the blonde beers, as the others are too bitter for my personal liking.

It is an old brick building, right off the historic Old Sheriff's office and Lake County Jail (that they used in the movie Public Enemeis). Its small, but they open up the courtyard patio thing in the warm months.

Cool thing I liked, and think you bitches may want to try and replicate is this:

It is a decorative lighting fixture made out of brown beer bottles. It looked like some 1/4" ply or mdf, holes cut in to put the bottles through, then they had Christmas lights in the top of each bottle. Some were farther down in the bottle giving it a pretty cool look. I have no clue how they affixed each bottle to stay in the holes, as the tops of the bottle would be narrower than the hole they cut. Don't know how they pulled it off, but it was pretty cool and I thought of you home brew guys and thought you might try to replicate this look for your joints.

There are other pics on their website to give you an idea of what they have.

That is so badass!! I must have one of those lights. Guess I'll have to go buy a couple hundred bottles of beer now. I think I'll do mine in 40's of Colt 45.

Nothing but class, baby!! :thumb:

Noice, thanks for the pics. I'd love to be able to step up to a conical fermenter one day - gotta get a bigger house first though! Baby steps...
