I've been knocking around the idea of picking up an older nano. I have a few pairs of running shoes with the Nike+ set up and the adapter thingy only works with a Nano or an Ipod touch 2nd gen. I got the wife a Nano for her birthday, but she takes it to work and doesn't always have it laying around, thus not available for me if I decide I want to use it. I like the Nike+ for tracking runs/walks etc. and an overall record of the workouts.

I have a 1GB sansa, which I spent $7 on and that is perfect for me. I'm not going to run out and buy a $150+ nano just to use a $30 attachment for my shoes.

I'm a bit skeptical of ebay, so I was wondering if any of you guys had an old Nano, that works and holds a charge laying around the house you were looking to get rid of.

Lemme know.

I have one. Don't know the gen of it, but it's the white / gum stick looking one.
I think it's a 1gig IIRC, but don't quote me on it.

Let me dig it up and I'll see about getting it to you.

That sounds like a Shuffle. The first gen shuffles were the white ones that looked like a pack of gum.

This is a link to the nike+ thing:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA365LL/C?fnode=MTY1NDA3NA&mco=Mjc1MDk

at the bottom of the page, there is a list/diagram/whatever you want to call it of the 1-4 gen Nano and the 2nd gen touch.

I'm not that ipod savvy so I really don't have a clue as to what the older shuffle looks like.

I was planning on picking up the 1G shuffle for $50 just to use with this thing, but its not compatible.

X2. If it has a USB it's a 1st gen Shuffle.

It's whatever the peeps say it is. 1st gen shuffle.

A shuffle is pretty much as good as the sansa I already have, the nano is the one that works with the nike+ thing. I'll pass for now, but thanks for looking it up.

Oh and Simps.....you can eat a bowl of dicks.

You might try a shuffle to see if it works first, if you can get your hands on one. It sounds like they have designed the nikes to work with any flash-memory ipods, that don't have a hard drive to screw up with constant jarring from running. The shuffle is a flash unit.

I think you need the dock style connector to work with the Nike+ system, and the shuffle only has USB.

Plus, wouldn't you need a screen as well? (which the shuffle doesn't have)

My ipod touch has that nike thing built in, and I need some new running shoes, so I think I'm going to try it out too.

I have a nano just lying around, think a 2nd gen that I bought my wife. She hasn't used in forever and she has an iphone now that will do music.

Make me an offer that you think is fair.

Wait to be honest, I'm not sure if it second gen or not. Its 4gb though. And I need to clear it with the wife.

If you click the link thing I put in the OP, it shows the nano 1-4 gen or 2nd gen touch.

I was going to just pick up a $50 shuffle, but since it won't work, I'm stuck to finding an old nano or just using the wife's.

Thanks, I'll throw it in the mail today. If it doesn't fit what you want it for, send it back.
